This guy is a top 5 draft choice and likely going to be NFL impact player as a rookie. Yet he is considering returning. Similar JJ McCarthy considering coming back even though likely a 1st rounder.

in contrast, Penn State has players who may not even make top two rounds but are leaving (or seriously considering leaving) as juniors. Are our guys leaving as juniors at a higher rate than other teams with equal or more talent? I think we all understand the Bama, Georgia and Ohio State who are continuously bringing in top 5 classes should have guys leaving as juniors. You would think our guys would be less likely to depart as juniors than the elite programs. We are doing well in draft but still not like these super elite teams in the draft.

If an NFL team takes JJ McCarthy in the first round then the owner should fire their GM! Harrison stands to possibly make similar NIL $$$ if boosters come through vs what he may get as a top 5 1st round draft pick.

Also remember he doesn't come from a family situation where he needs to start earning NFL money ASAP.

For Harrison to do that he'd have to line up deals worth twice what Caleb Williams did. In the realm of possibility? I can't say that it's not.

But keep in mind that Williams had deals with the likes of Dr. Pepper, Nissan, Neutrogena, all substantial companies looking to get a return on advertising dollars, and not particularly concerned with the fortunes of USC football, except indirectly. Harrison could get money from similar sources, but their motivation would not be to keep him at OSU to win football games. Does he have that sort of commercial value. I can't say.

Now it's entirely possible that the bag men at OSU could get their NIL collectives in gear to raise such a sum. I can't doubt that it could be done. But if it were, they'd be issuing an open invitation to the NCAA to conduct a proctological exam, which the boys in Indianapolis couldmn't refuse.

I agree with Art. MHJ very strong player, and seems to be a very good guy off the field as well. But I don't think he has the rizz to get big big NIL money, unless you are just paying for OSU wins . Doesn't appear anyway NIL even sniffs NFL top 5 money.

Harrison is widely regarded as one of the best players in the 2024 NFL draft class and basically a lock for the top five. In terms of improving his draft stock, there's almost nothing he can gain by returning to Columbus, and it would presumably require a massive check to make it worth his while otherwise.

Under the terms of the NFL's rookie wage scale, here are the signing bonuses for each of the first five picks in the 2024 draft, per Spotrac:
  1. $24,849,725
  2. $23,618,753
  3. $22,835,422
  4. $21,940,160
  5. $20,373,464
That doesn't take into account the additional money Harrison would collect from endorsements.

NIL matching first contract NFL deals sounds appealing to these kids, I’m sure. However, risking injury and giving up a year of time accrual towards an NFL pension is a big deal.

Torn ACL and lose 0.2 sec on your 40 = millions of lost dollars.

He has more of a chance of that happening in the NFL vs college.
Has his bonus check though, and any other guaranteed money his lawyer can squeeze out of his NFL contract. Seems like plenty of the knee injuries are non-contact. Almost half are incurred from training. No wonder Iverson scoffed at practice.

Plus he would be accruing time towards the NFL pension. That can’t be underscored. With the amount of guys getting injured and concerned about head injuries, we’ve seen guys walking away at younger ages. John Urshel was a prime example. Get the pension, walk away, and move on with your life and pursue other interests and goals.

Maybe it isn’t about money for MASERATI. o_O . Maybe he wants to take a few more classes at T™️osu. Add a second major or maybe a master’s degree.

Just out of curiosity, I tried to find his major on the OSU website. I couldn't find it. Players don't go there to play school. Checked the PSU site, and majors are listed. We are so behind the times.

I hope to never see a PSU student-athlete on such a list. Screw winning. Not worth it.
I was flying on a plane with a father whose son had just signed with Jayhawks basketball. We talked a little about the craziness of recruiting. He went on to talk about visiting Huggins at WVU. He asked Huggy about what majors the players take, and what are the good attributes about WVU academics. Bob went onto say I don't know the answers . In all these years of coaching, no one has asked those questions.

The tweet you post nails it. It’s less about 2024 earnings and more about delaying the second (and third) contract opportunities. That’s where a guy like MHJ stands to make huge $ and there’s nothing practical in playing another year at OSU at the cost of delaying big $.

NFL is way more brutal and has more savage hitters than college.
He gets hurt in the NFL I'm pretty sure he's covered , college not so much, draft picks mold away in Chicago. All you need is a bottom feeder player to light him up. Who knows
