149 Final:

The all-PSU final.

Tyler Kasak over David Evans, 4-2
Should be settled now hopefully. Need one guy to be focused on the BIG tournament and Nationals. Glad we’ll have Kasak back in the lineup. Young man is tough now. Just concerned about his strength against a few other guys.

Hey Tom,
Is this young man ranked at 125 that Jax Forrest beat ?

He's currently ranked #2 @ 125 by Intermat. But that's somewhat deceiving, in that 125 has been insane this season. Plus, Stanich has only wrestled in 3 duals for Lehigh. I haven't followed the situation closely, but I think Lehigh's plan is to redshirt him, though perhaps they are still debating that.

Does anybody know, is Jax Forrest an age pure sophomore or is he a reclass and older, which seems to be pretty routine for sports at private schools?

I am not sure PSU can be all over high school sophomores. There is plenty of things to worry about, Penn State Wrestling recruiting isn't one of them. When you look at the stacked recruiting we have done around that weight, if Jax comes to PSU great, but the Cael Train stops for no one.

It was essentially a requirement for coal region football teams at one time.
I understand why it’s done, I just don’t know why kids would want to spend extra/repeat years in Jr High to do it. But, on the other hand, I was only 17 when I graduated HS, so I was the other end of the spectrum.

He is a holdback and should be in his junior year.

I'm sure the info is out there, but I can't find his birth date. I saw a quote somewhere from Jax that indicated that he was held back when he came from North Carolina to PA, and was later held back due to the quarantine (I'm not sure if this was the pandemic; no clarification in the quote I saw). I can't speak to how accurate any of this is.

We can look at the Cadet rules, and know that he's under a certain again at whatever years he competed, but that just gives a general indicator of under X years old.
