Davis has went gangbusters in his matches. He has wobbly legs third period but by NCAA I expect his shape will be top notch. Kid is a gamer but Mendez is special.
Pulling off a huge upset would be crazy but I'm really just hoping he keeps it respectable, scores a Td and then leaves with the idea that there's a window in which he can beat him in March.

It is not in the Cael or PSU style to be defensive but if they did wrestle defensively based how low scoring and close the last couple years against us were I think he could definitely keep it to a major. However, that is not in our DNA and the more BD attacks the bigger the problem may be for us.
And it will be a heck of a match. Everybody wins, well almost everybody.

He did but it wasn't due to lack of training. Might have been adrenaline dump, Might be his tank isn't great. The point is he has been training this time.
Training hard at one weight and optimizing your tank for a cut you weren’t planning on at a lower weight aren’t the same. Braeden looked a little better against Hardy than he did two weeks earlier against Bailey. He both went out harder and lasted deeper into the match. I think he’s still putting it all together, but Friday won’t be the ultimate gauge.

So previous to this week what would you all say is the closest opponent davis has had to mendez in his career and what was the outcome

I do not know. My point was and i read someone said the same thing is Mendez tends to wrestle to the level of his competition. against a conservative tight wrestler he'll allow that to happen. He'll still win but by less. Davis in my opinion is good enough that if he tried to be defensive he could keep it to 7-2. But Cael and BD will wrestle to win. That means attack and in that case Mendez will likely win big.

If there was more evidence that Davis was all the way back and his lungs were in good shape, I'd be inclined to agree. However, if he gasses late in the 2nd it could get ugly. Remember the guy was on the couch, eating Bon Bons and binge watching Industry a short while ago before he was called into service.
Is that his fiancee?

My question wasn't in reference to any previous post. Sorry for the confusion. I was just asking in general what people thought

That might have been true in the past but is a pretty hard sell this year. Mendez has an 88% bonus rate. His only regular decisions were Echemendia and Hardy. His next lowest scoring matches were 14-3 vs Hardy and 14-5 vs Vombaur. He hung 17 on Bailey, who's not exactly known for pushing pace.

We really need to stop with the sitting on the couch thing. I know (at least I think) you are somewhat joking but the kid was in the room everyday working. He might not have been pulling weight, but he was training. His tank right now is what his tank will likely be. Davis is just one of those guys that is a little sloppy and against high level competition gets himself in trouble. He is good enough to beat anybody but his holes mean he can lose matches he shouldn't.
Davis tends to struggle in space. Menedez is good in space. Davis was stronger than most125 pounders.
Menedez is stronger than most 141 pounders .
Davis certainly doesn't match up well with him because he doesn't have a real slick defense. I'm thinking a major would be the most likely outcome .
