I don't know why, but I love this from CJF. I've seen so much growth from him the last 18 months. Last year, the team did some things that were not the norm under Franklin. They played inspired football the entire season, they didn't compound losses with uninspired play the following week. They never played down to competition really all year. The "1-0" mantra is important if not exhausting to hear him say, but this is a really good sign that he is offering that they are prepping for 2 games already(and he names them). This suggests to me, and I am likely reading too far into it, that he is really comfortable with his roster. He doesn't have to baby this group by preaching "1-0" relentlessly. He thinks his roster is talented enough that they can start to put some extra attention on the true inflection games. When the roster was a 5-8 win roster, you'd don't have the luxury of looking ahead at all, you need to scratch and claw out every win. My hope is that this shows that he has enough confidence in his coaches and roster that they can start preparing for their big goals without being overly concerned that a Maryland or a Northwestern really poses any threat to beat you. It's a luxury that I don't know Franklin has ever experienced since he has been here. When he started, the roster was really out of balance from the sanctions and BOB. The covid years were all a mess.
