First, let me say I cannot find fault with Beau's decision to leave. Naturally, as a fan, I would like him to stay with the team thru the playoffs like so many others are doing, including SMU's backup QB. But I respect Beau's position that he needs to do what is best for himself. Is it a selfish decision? Of course it is. But it's also selfish on a fan's part to say it's wrong. We all want Penn State to win football games. But do we want them to win for the benefit for the Penn State Community as a whole or so we can boast to our neighbors and co-workers in the break room. It's rare these days when people do selfless acts. It's also rare when a football players are selfless and truly play for each other and put the team ahead of personal gain. It's just human nature to he selfish. However, in football, as in life, the coaches who succeed, from a team perspective, are those who are able to instill in his players a sense of selflessness and team. It all depends on priorities of course. Again, Beau's decision is neither right or wrong. But it may reveal something about priorities. Don't get me wrong, to win championships it takes a great amount of personal sacrifice. Sometimes at tremendous cost to the individuals. I will say the teams that make these sacrifices a priority, seem to win more often than those who place their priorities elsewhere.
