Scooby ... I didn't play football for Penn State.
You're also awed that I can tie my own shoelaces and don't need to resort to velcro.
Yes, those people are childish ... and you were one of them. Now you're a scorned childish person. This "era" is about people who were kept down finally getting their freedom and rights. It's often the case that oppressors look fondly back on the oppressive times and lament what was "lost." It's often the case that oppressors romanticize that time. Prior, kids had to choose a school, based off some millionaire salesman's pitch, and then they had to stay there and work a full-time job and please their master so they didn't get the boot, so they could obtain a throwaway degree for "free." If they decided to leave the plantation, they were punished by losing a year of playing time.
Not much different than public high school, and other options ... it's so romantic that kids were forced to play for Creepy McCreepster and his Minions of Ineptitude, so they huddled together and got what they could out of it. And part of that was labeled "school pride." But when they had the opportunity to bolt for private or charter schools, oh how the Creepy McCreepsters lamented the loss of "school pride" keeping them there. It used to be so great when kids couldn't leave. Now those uppity bastards are all about themselves.
And how did you not understand the situation he was faced with prior?
