The NCAA just voted to allow UNLIMITED official visits starting in August.

Meaning your school better pony up for travel, lodging, food, and entertainment for any kid that wants to visit anytime they wish.

I'm sure we will be able to fire up our private plane to make this happen.

President Reagan's ghost approves though...

I'm all for freedom........but it needs to be regulated freedom. I mean even the NFL has the draft and salary cap, that creates a repeatable system.

There are literally no restraints on the college system right now. I'd hate to be a coach in this era, having to kiss the *** of these idiot players. A strategic approach for all sports, really even the whole athletic department, is more important now than ever before. You can't just say, "hey lets go raise a bunch of money and pay the best coaches and players we can find", well, a bunch of teams with more money also adopt that strategy.

Further, if this much money is out there, I'm having trouble understanding how we can be in a recession, how anyone can be poor, etc.

I wonder how many Minor League Baseball teams have a smaller pay roll than LSU? ******

I was in a conversation at the gym and a guy was saying Bryce Young always had a smile on his face regardless of if he made a bad play and was always positive. I say to the guy I would be happy too if I was being paid 1 million plus free education to play football in college.

I think we have already seen the most extreme with the NIL. The A&M deal last season opened up some eyes and the rich booster eyes are being opened. They got took at A&M. It will all pan out. I think our NIL should be used for current players and portal not high school.

Agree. The newness will wear off, and kinda already has. It will start circling around the star players eventually. The problem that will remain is that the portal will create the bidding wars - I mean think about it, even if you're a completely happy sophomore at a certain school, no way you can't listen if someone is throwing big money at you to transfer. And there will be some that will end up staying another year in college rather than going in the draft now that they can get paid to do so.

Won’t change recruiting budgets. There’s still a cap for the amount of kids a school can bring in. I don’t see this changing much. Schools still have to be selective for who they can bring in

The nil stuff is going to be a bigger thorn in our side than Larry Templeton was. We don't have the money or fan base size to compete with the big dogs. And that NIL is going to start sliding at the big money schools to other sports like baseball where we won't be able to keep up.

In my mind we have two options:

A. Throw what we have at football and hope for the best since it's the cash cow of college athletics

B. Throw it at basketball and baseball
In basketball if you can buy one or two difference makers you can contend.

Baseball not as many schools will be pouring in NIL money initially, it gives us a chance to get ahead of the game but unfortunately teams like alabama and uga have so much extra cash(nil) they are already starting to throw it to baseball as well.

my vote would be to focus on regional recruiting in football try and stay middle of the pack with a decent team every 3/5 years and throw a majority of what we have coming in nil wise at baseball and basketball the two sports we can actually be competitive in as a small market athletics program.

you're going to start seeing highschool baseball players that would be 2nd-5th round picks not sign in the draft because they will be getting offered close to the equivalent signing bonus they would be getting from an MLB team from an Alabama or UGA/Florida type team. If we can't do the same with the 11.7 schollies we are going to get left behind.
At the very least these teams will use it to offer full rides to kids vs partials

I hate that this is no longer remotely amatuer. But if there is no going back and we have to pay players, seems to me schools ought to be able to trade players, the ones receiving money, without their consent.

And just like the pros, make the original schools continue to pay for a portion of their "salary" per trade negotiation.

NIL stuff is getting creative as 17. Boise State's NIL group just partnered with a local brewery for a new beer. The brewery will donate a a portion of sales for every beer to the collective. $30,000 expected donation in year one.

I feel like this is the kind of stuff that could help our NIL out. I know if I was a craft brewery in MS, I would love to partner with @CharlieWinfield on something like this. Every beer in the LFL and all the tailgates would be Bulldog Blonde's or whatever they want to call them.

That's a brilliant idea. Weren't you looking for a new entrepreneurial venture?

Wanna know what unregulated capitalism looks like? Post-Gorbachev Russian Federation. A thieves paradise.
For programs with a low budget and high ethical standards this bodes poorly, but that’s nothing new.

After I first saw that on the news a couple of weeks ago, I no śhit looked at trying to buy a few barrels of bourbon and having about 300-500 custom bottles of bourbon for bulldog fans to buy. I figured we could get a cost around $75 a bottle for a good sourced 8-10 year old bourbon and sell them for $125 or something and donate the proceeds $15-25K depending on if we did 2 or 3 private barrels.

The whole idea was torpedoed as soon as I realized how impossible it would be to run something like that through the archaic-socialist-communist-marxist-fascist liquor laws in Mississippi. It would be easier and less illegal just to sell heroin or hookers.

Even more reason to concentrate on our immediate geographical region. I don't see this as a real big problem for us, specifically.

But overall, what the hell is the NCAA doing? Do they even know? Why just tear down every wall?

Of course they know. They are doing exactly what they want….trying to ensure their continued relevance and keep their cut of the cash cow coming in. So they are doing what pleases the real powers that be at every turn….the big money schools.

Tail is wagging the dog at this point.

Why should a high school player be limited to 5 visits anyway. That sounds completely dumb. These players have literally dozens of offers if not bordering on 100. They should be allowed to travel to every single one of them before signing a stupid letter of intent.

The letter of intent is also dumb. Until they start classes, these players should be able to do whatever they want.

They never have been limited to 5 visits….just 5 that can be paid for by the schools. They’ve always been more than welcome to go on as many trips as they want on their own dime.
