Thought May made a mistake calling the TO on FAU’s last possession. I’d rather run the offense in the free flow of the game, plus they ended up having to burn their last TO because they couldn’t get the ball inbounds.
Every time Miami chips away and narrows the UCONN lead to around or under 10, then UCONN goes on a run.
Miami just hit a 3 with 6:06 left to cut it to 62-52, UCONN, then Miami gets a steal, UCONN blocks the shot and it's tipped out of bounds by Miami.
Yeah, bad misses off the front of the rim. But FAU has blown three layups in the last four minutes.
The lack of boxing out during free throws was mind boggling. That is fundamental bball and they falter in that aspect down the stretch.
And did you notice the SDSU coach did NOT burn a time-out on the game winning shot. Remember the Purdue/PSU Big Ten final when we are down 2, Funk has the ball on a missed FT with 10 seconds left? What did the new ND coach do? Called a TO! Then PSU had to now INBOUND the ball again, and Purdue puts a 7-4 guy over the ball. You DON't call TO! The SDSU coach even said in his PC that they practice end of game stuff every day, he didn't want to have to inbound the ball again...Thought May made a mistake calling the TO on FAU’s last possession. It is not actually over- coaching, it is actually under- coaching by not doing things in practice to have your team prepared and confident. If Dutcher had needed a 3 he probably would have called a TO. But, I needed a 2 to win… live ball off a defensive rebound… done this in practice a thousand times, let them play it out. Funk gets a rebound, dribbling down the court, a 2 to tie, 3 to win, 10 seconds left, and you need to call a TO to run a set play, awful! At the end of March no less. You have only been practicing for 6 months!!And that situation was ripe for a timeout because Dutcher had his 3 bigs in the game for defense. Just goes to show what preparation and trusting your players can do. Shrews didn’t believe in them in the BT final, Gard didn’t trust his in the NIT semi with an egregiously bad timeout. Tons of overcoaching nowadays in college basketball and I’m with those who want to reduce the number of timeouts.
