I thought this was funny

"Money can't buy happiness" is officially the slogan of the 2023 New York Mets.

After entering the season with the highest 26-man Opening Day payroll in MLB, at $331 million, the Mets were eliminated from playoff contention Friday with a 10-inning, 5-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

It was a miserable enough season that the Mets basically gave up in the middle and sold hard at the trade deadline, dealing away the likes of Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Tommy Pham, Mark Canha and David Robertson. In the cases of Scherzer and Verlander, the Mets included a mountain of cash to cover their $43.3 million salaries in exchange for some significant prospects.

Friday's elimination was a long time coming and hardly a surprise. Still, it's astounding to see a team that came into 2023 with the resources and track record of the Mets go down this hard.

Can't wait for that other NY baseball team to be scratched from the playoffs. 2 teams...$600 million...no post-season! Awesome...

I'm not familiar with the Mets but the Yankees are a disaster. Their $290 million salary includes $40 million for Judge and $36 million for Cole and that's the good news.

Their salary includes
  • $32 million for Stanton who is injury prone and batting .189
  • $24 million for Rodon who is injury prone with an ERA of 5.9
  • $15 million for Severino who is injury prone with an ERA of 6.7
  • $21 million for Donaldson who hit .142 before being cut from the roster
That's a third of their payroll which is totally unproductive.

They should know from watching Ohio State that the highest payroll doesn’t guarantee championships

At least Severino and Donaldson are off the payroll next year.

I have a feeling Rodon will bounce back.

Stanton is a disaster.

The Phillies have the 4th highest payroll in baseball, and they are limping in. Orioles and the Rays are two of the best teams in baseball with limited payroll. I'm a big Phils fan but hope they get smoked by a team with little payroll.
