If only he stayed another year at PSU he'd have been really good in the NFL. 🙄

If he had stayed at PSU one more year, he would have been the same age when he entered the NFL.

So, there's that.

Awesome! He can display it next to his Collegiate Butkus Award. Oops. 😉

It’s about time a good linebacker came from PSU.

And he may have played great at PSU then picked number one in the NFL draft by the vaunted Jaguars. He, his dog Brutus, and Urban could have reunited to take the Jags to a 4-13 record.

Or he could have just trained his @ss off with his own trainers during a collosal 💩 show of a season across covid college football. What did he have to gain when all position groups practiced separate, game plans were done via Skype, and the Lasch weight room was limited to few players at a time? Training on his own gave him the ability to go 24/7 if he wished. No so at PSU.

Seems he did ok with winning the best linebacker in the NFL honor as a rookie. That does nothing but help out PSU recruiting down the road.

So there's that.

So a model for future players?

I wouldn't doubt it. Coaches redshirt freshmen all the time and it's considered good for player development. Michah chose to redshirt his junior season to develop as a player and it's frowned upon.

Look, I don't like it and wish we could go back to the 80's-90's model of college football. But now coaches are making $10 million per year and skip out on schools for better deals elsewhere while the University collect a $50 million TV deal per year. I can't blame a player for sitting out a year to potentially go higher in the NFL draft. It's strictly business at this point. Sad but true.

If memory serves me right he discussed it with the coaches and they decided he would do that before the big decided to play a scheduled covid season and by then it was not the best thing to change what he already had decided to do . Sit out the covid year. I may be wrong here so if, correct me.

I think it depends on who you ask about the timeline. Even though the B1G decided to play the season the rules were so strict and it wasn't a guarantee that any games would even be played. Heck, the team was done with it all and voted not to play in a bowl game so they could see their friends and family again. I bet if you were to poll the B1G players now, the majority would say looking back they would have opted out of that season as well.

Spot on. Micah chose to forego his third year after The Big canceled the season if I recall correctly.

Yes. If I'm not mistaken to enter the NFL draft it needs to be three years after you graduate high school. I'm not sure we'd see a freshman opt out for two years until eligible for the draft, but certainly after two years of college.

I believe that he opted out before the BIG cancelled the season. If you recall, he cited the safety of his child as a reason to opt out. There is no need to make that statement if the season was already cancelled. He also had the opportunity to come back later, but he declined.

Regardless, it does not matter. His life. His choice. It's a sign of the times, and we should expect more of the same.

Let's not forget the contributions of ESPN and Kirk Herbstreit forcing MP in PSU's direction.

Agree on the recruiting end. One thing I noticed is that a bunch of recruits, especially on defense, are posing pics of Micah when they Tweet references to PSU. This is a good thing.
