btw, where has @johnmpsu been of late? He's usually the one keeping everyone updated on Mikaela's wins.

Here's the Vail Daily article. Have to give some props to Moltzan too for her second place finish. US 1-2.

PS For anybody thar cares Vail is now almost completely open. Only lift not running is the new Sundown bowl lift. New Gamecreek lift is now open.

Mikaela is the GOAT. It’s such a shame she choked in this past Olympics. I hope her skills hold on until 2026.

It’s great to see US women place 1 and 2.

Side note: I just now realized that the US Ski Team is no longer partnered with Spyder (an American company). The spider web design on the speed suit used to be iconic.

Yeah, and this is what she’ll be remembered for by the general public because for most the Olympics is the only time they see skiing.

The rest of the world doesn't think this. It's only the US that thinks the only competition is the Olympics. She is clearly the best female athlete in the US, probably best male or female. A shame more people don't recognize that.

Her FIS Alpine record to this point is beyond remarkable. She has 80 wins and 127 podiums by the age of 27. She has missed the better part of two seasons too. It's beyond that though. When she's at her best (especially in slalom), it appears that the other skiers are on a different course - a much harder one.

Yes, she is beyond remarkable. She's even winning GS races and won a speed event (super g) this season. She will eventually smash every record, male and female.

What's even better is, despite originally being from Colorado, she really cut her teeth in the sport on East Coast ice (Burke Mountain Academy, VT). Speaking as one who actually grew up ski racing, I think that formative background has given her an edge (pun intended) as a technical discipline racer as she rose to the highest levels of the sport.

If anybody wants to read the vail daily article on it he here it is. Good chance she breaks the record this week. Four short of Stenmark. She's only 27. A great accomplishment and a shame it's not appreciated more here in the US. She is very well liked in the Vail valley.

Vonn's comment on Shiffrin:
"I’m really happy for Mikaela Shiffrin. Records are meant to be broken and it’s a sign of progress. And if anyone is to break my record, I’m really happy that it’s an American. 🇺🇸
She’s going to continue pushing the limits and continue to inspire other Americans. It just speaks for our country as a whole and what we’re capable of doing. 🇺🇸
There were a lot of women who paved the way for me. And now it’s her turn to pave the way for the next generation." – Lindsey Vonn

Number 84. Wins another GS. One away from that record too. Two more to tie Stenmark. She is the definition of GOAT.

People have been throwing this in Vonn’s face all over social media. Why don’t people like Vonn? Tiger?

I doubt it had anything to do with Tiger, but then again, it's tough to speak for people in general.

Mikaela has always been humble, despite her amazing skills. Humility is endearing.

Vonn was not very humble. That's not all that uncommon for skiers that specialize in downhill.

I think some of the dislike comes from the 2010 Olympics. She was a big focus of the TV coverage those Olympics. And a lot of it also included her then husband, Thomas Vonn, who was a former US Olympic skier and was her coach. He was pretty controlling, and she preached on and on about how his techniques were so advanced. It didn't help that she was set to compete in all 5 of the Olympic skiing events, and did so, but ended up finishing 1st in the downhill and 3rd in the Super G, but crashed out of the Super Combined, crashed in the Giant Slalom, and missed a gate in the Slalom.

I have not met her but my daughter has. Vonn skied over to her class of young children a few years ago. She spent some time with them and was very gracious.
