they have listed and put Sluder over Deljuan. Also, Ellis Wyms deserves serious consideration.

i realize this guy didn't go on to do anything other than a few NFL games and arena ball after college but damn it was electrifying to see Kevin Prentiss streaking down the field during punt returns. Pegues is still the right guy in for that slot though.

he frustrated sometimes but on critical third downs, he usually got the call and he usually came through

Lots of issues here. The David Stewart thing has been mentioned, but Shivers was a tackle not a guard. He's out, put in Michael Fair. Tight end, Butler over Donald Lee, really? Ed Smith was really a linebacker in Joe Lee's scheme, so put Conner Stephens at that end, and Smith bumps out Jamar Chaney. Wille Blade should be ahead of Ronald Fields, and I'd put Dorsett Davis over him as well. Kevin Prentiss over Nick Turner as all-purpose by a long shot.

I didn't even notice Butler. That might be the biggest mistake there. He wouldn't be the tight end on my all 2007 MSU team. I'd still take Smith at end. He could rush with the best of them. I think Wyms, Blade and McKinley could all go over Fields.

Another vote for Blade on the DL.

I would put Pegues in over Cooper. Cooper was good but Pegues will go down as one of our all time greats.

Ashley Cooper wasn't a true safety. He rushed off the end about as much as he was in pass coverage.

I was always an Eric Brown fan. He could destroy some people coming off a blitz. I wonder if the way they used his position as a sort of hybrid LB/Safety took him out of the running. But that group they have is solid.

I would be tempted to put Tim Nelson over Pig, despite the pre-season accolades heaped on Pig. No doubt he was good, but I dont think I will ever get over seeing Josh Reed use and abuse Pig.

Lil' Ol' Timmy Nelson was a missile. I had a friend that used to coach/play at Bama, he was a GA on the team when BAMA broke our undefeated streak. He said their gameplan revolved around avoiding Tim Nelson.

can't blame Pig for that... no strong safety should be covering the other team's #1 WR. That's just bad coaching. And yes Tim Nelson was the truth.

but ironically, it was Nelson that go torched by Shaun Alexander on a wheel route for a huge gain in that game.

I have an issue with that. Butler had loads of potential and had some good games, but couldn't really hold a candle to Lee. Lee had by far the best hands on our '01 and '02 teams, but our coaches saw fit to never throw to him instead passing to our many stonehanded WRs. Lee's numbers really don't show how good he really was. If he was on our teams the past few years he would have put up some nice numbers. I can think of a bunch of passes Butler dropped that Lee wouldn't have.

any all decade team for MSU should include long snapper with all the scholarships we have tied up with the position

team could be on that list

Sluder, Wyms, McKinley, Hilliard, Davis, Stephens, Menafee, Yeates, Blade

Some of these on their own shouldn't be on the list but as a team - that was a lot of incredible talent on one team.

he met Ricky Williams @ Texas in the Cotton Bowl. He got knocked senseless in that game, as did the whole team.

otherwise known as the only play I remember from that game. Again, they gameplanned around Nelson, I have it on first hand information - so actually it is not the least bit ironic.

And yes, Nelson, got knocked the 17 out in the Cotton Bowl.

I think it is extremely ironic that they gameplanned around him and ended up burning him for one of their biggest plays.

But maybe im having an alanis moment where I dont' really know what irony is.

we can discuss in full detail this weekend.

Everybody on the 2-deep could have started on any other team. Was Derrick Rush in there or was he earlier? He was another good one. He had the best last name at least.

CJ Sirmones...for that one play. Honestly, I'd take Lee, Kelly, Sherrod (for his blocking) over Eric Butler any day. Sure he has some records, but they're plastic. When did he ever make a big play in a big game?

the whole afternoon. They kept throwing to the slot receiver for a slip screen if I remember correctly and they pump faked and Nelson bit leaving the wheel route wide open.

The wheel route I remember. Zow was looking one direction and turned to throw to Alexander in the other. Nelson got caught looking in the back field. Then Zow lofted the ball over his head for a long gain.

The set up on the slip screen was for a TD and put the game out of reach. Prather got burned on that one. Their WRs set up a wall to block for Milons. Zow pump faked to Milons. Then one of the blockers (could have been SA...don't recall) streaked past our DBs and was wide open. Sucked royally that day but was a thing of beauty looking back.

But anyway, that was 9 years ago. I just remember this Bama fan mocking the DPR anytime something went their way. He was obcessed with the DPR. That was probably one of the most intense crowds at a game that I have attended other than any Egg Bowl. I think for one day in 1999 Bama actually considered us a rival.

"optimusprime4...ish" that still ranks right up there with probably the drunkest i have ever been. I took down one of those BIG flexi-flasks full of whiskey by the end of the first half. Again, all I remember from that game is the wheel route - and trying to fight the entire state of Alabama outside the stadium after the game.
