I’m not thinking I’m going to be a fan of this.
I like it. Saw it in action at a triple A game last year. Basically how tennis line calls work. Human ump calls it, pitcher, batter, or catcher can challenge. Challenge has to happen immediately. Two failed challenges per team per game.

Tennis is actually going more and more to all line calls are electronic. No linesmen, just the chair umpire. This is what baseball should do with ball-strike calls. Home plate ump gets an instantaneous ball-strike call in his earpiece and relays the call to the field.

If you’re going to do that, you might as well just get rid of the umpire. Why have the middle man when you have a readymade system already available that is more accurate, can make the calls faster, and can even make the calls in celebrity voices!

It’s on the way. I’d say within the next 2 years if this goes well with the challenges.

Baseball is ruining baseball. Just go full robo ump if you're doing this silly crap
Silly? I’m confused as to why you’re against this. Have you seen some of the horrendous calls behind the plate? Some of these umps have zero consistency. And with the new immigration laws, how are we ever going to find the next generation Angel Hernandez?
On a serious note, it is a very quick review process. The electronic tracking of the pitch is replayed on the big screen with the strike zone box displayed (same as the court lines and ball in a tennis review) and the trackman system says ball or strike. Very fast process.

Incredibly fast review process (exactly the opposite of NCAA basketball); must be initiated on the field by pitcher, catcher, or batter; limited number of failed challenges. I don't see the downside here. Should be implemented for the regular season and playoffs immediately.
