I just assume everyone's going in the portal every year these days. If somebody good doesn't, I'm pleasantly surprised.
He could always return. College athletics right now is Free Agency after every year.
That said, he should get a pretty penny. I could easily see him ending up at a Kansas / Texas type program.
This is tricky with Hubbard. I don’t see any way both return to Starkville next year.

This player improved from the beginning of the season to the end. Of course, we don't have enough money to play the game.

Let’s wait and see on this one. Could be a negotiating thing. He has tried to leave before and ended up coming back.
And good players are leaving other programs too that we have to go get. Until the rules change, a significant roster turnover from season to season is the norm now and should be expected. Basically a new team each year now - no continuity should be expected.
Didn't he do the same last season? About time for grown ups to act like grown ups and athletes to act like employees. Time to institute contracts or one time portal transfer then you have to sit out a year if you leave again,
Lot of players in the portal not committed anywhere now. Players leave, and then recruiting starts (except for the tampering that probably started in January).
One day true fans might join the portal too.
Imagine how easy it would be to be a fan of Florida or Bama. F'ing LSU has 52 national championships. They are all forever good, or getting better, in all sports. Maybe it would get boring, but I sure wouldn't mind trying it out.
I had a conversation recently with someone very much in the know about LSU's athletic programs and foundation. They are not even remotely hurting for cash and more is coming in for lots of sports, especially from out-of-state. Pretty cool to make nice with an owner of a major corporation ready to donate millions who has a niece or granddaughter who plays soccer or volleyball (I'm not revealing too much). I recommend recruiting some marginal players in any sport who have money bags relatives.

Employees sign employment contracts and leave early all the time. Its a given in the workplace- people quit mid-year or mid-contract all over the country. Nobody has to then sit out and not work before they are eligible to work again.
I get the idea of athletes acting like employees, but I think many dont accurately see how employees act.
Yup. Can't blame him for wanting to see what the market is. I hate they've set it up this way but can't hate him for taking advantage of it. Hopefully he at least wants to stay if the money is close.
If we can't afford to hang on to him, then we will never be players in the SEC. We are really only paying one other player. Certainly we have the coin. At least I hope we do.
My dumb *** was an Alabama fan until I enrolled at State Street high school. My first year of sports awareness was the year after Bear Bryant won his last championship. My first year at State was the year Stallings won his championship.

I understood we are going heavy into the portal this year with some big bucks....at least according to a podcast I listen too.
Every player from every sport at every university is in the portal.
Sure it is. But, the grownups that came up with this system didn’t implement any rules. I’ll never blame anybody for bouncing around for more money in this awful system.
