I had a conversation recently with someone very much in the know about LSU's athletic programs and foundation. They are not even remotely hurting for cash and more is coming in for lots of sports, especially from out-of-state. Pretty cool to make nice with an owner of a major corporation ready to donate millions who has a niece or granddaughter who plays soccer or volleyball (I'm not revealing too much). I recommend recruiting some marginal players in any sport who have money bags relatives.
Where’s our Henig Fur money????****

Rumor I heard is he’s being heavily pursued by two different sec schools. It’s possible they get into a bidding war for him which would make us a distant 3rd.

Every player from every sport at every university is in the portal.

Gonna take some coin. Even Fred Smith is propping up U. of Memphis with multimillions. We need a Billionaire too that loves MSU.

Now, there are agents in these guys ear encouraging them to go into the portal each year.

It Creates leverage against your current school and offers the opportunity to land a bigger paycheck with another.

The whole system is a joke. The fans and billionaires funding nil are being cucked.

I can just about guarantee that something along these lines is happening, and it’s so incredibly disheartening.

I can’t blame Murphy for pursuing it, and I can’t blame State for not wanting to break the bank. That said, if we don’t have the financial means to keep one of our own key players that averaged 11/7 this season, I don’t even know what we’re doing anymore or how we can expect to compete

Murphy didn’t want to play the 5. That problem got fixed so I’d sit and wait for this to shake out a minute.

The portal giveth and the portal taketh away.

College athletics has become a group of professional sports leagues with little to no rules around player movement. NIL and the transfer portal made a situation already plagued with the 'haves' and 'have nots' 100 times worse.

Traditional pro sports have rules governing this because they know that free roster movement is not good for the overall health and profitability of their leagues. College athletics are going to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs if nothing is done about this.

One of the things that blows my mind is that both colleges and players have an opportunity to absolutely cash in on true NIL in the form of player merchandise if they can bring back some sanity to all this player movement. Few are gonna give a flying 17 about a player jersey, poster, etc as long as they’re hopping around every few months, though

I know this is stupid and old fashioned as well as gone forever, but I like following these players all the way thru their career and being able to see how the team will improve year by year as the players grow. This annual swap meet just isn't very interesting. I dont care for the NBA and this is much worse. No need in even checking to see who the players are. Whole new team next year.

This point is not made nearly enough. NIL is counterintuitive when paired with free agency. Yet another reason this is really just pay to play.

our NIL is bottom of the league... and its headed that way in baseball too... people keep trying to defending it. Without the NIL to compete we will never get and keep top talent... or even our top talent will leave to be the 3-4th guy on a better team due to money and success.

The dirty secret is true NIL is only lucrative for a hand full of players. Do you think any one is going to buy jerseys for a back-up DT? But he can make low 6 figures now with the transfer portal.

Sure it is. But, the grownups that came up with this system didn’t implement any rules. I’ll never blame anybody for bouncing around for more money in this awful system.
It clearly isn't the student athletes fault. They are just playing the game they were given. In a world of less and less consequences for actions, it seems time to either control it or let it go...

I'm for having college athletics, but its going the way of minor league for the professionals without a governing body (NCAA).
