Supposedly top recruit, Matt Elam, contacted Jimbo Fisher last night after hearing the news. In a panic that UF may lose alot of recruits, Foley advised Meyer to tell the team he is just on leave in order to save a top recruiting class. I believe Meyer will leave and come back to the team in a much less stressful position. imho.

But I bet a current HS senior had very little to no impact on the decisions of Urban Meyer. With that being said, I could care less what happens as long as they stay away from Mullen. For the first time in years, we have a coach that I have confidence in. He knows how to win...and if he is here long enough, he will. IMO, it will start next season. I think we go bowling.

UF saw last year that Meyer may retire soon. So they send Dan Mullen out to a farm team to work on his head coaching. And....

didn`t want to get caught as a coordinator on a retiring coach`s staff with no shot at the HC position. I just believe Mullen knew this(Meyer) was inevitable at some point and made his decision based on it one way or the other.

to keep him longer than about three more years....maybe that long, maybe not. He can do a helluva lot of good for us in that time frame. We need to go ahead and give him and the staff a big raise as a statement of good will.

it all makes sense now.
But people can still speculate about a replacement.
That's still fine, right ?

Dan saw a chance to be a HC at an SEC school and felt like it would be a good opportunity to make a name for himself. And if he failed at MSU, he could always go back to being an OC, and even if he failed as our HC, he would be highly sought after for that position.

So, really, coming to MSU was low risk, high reward for him when you think about it. He was replacing a coach that while I think a lot of people liked him as a person, he was also losing to Ole Miss 45-0 and had losing seasons four out of five years and really had not improved very much if at all from the time he took over.

If he can win seven-eight games here consistently- and Jackie proved you could do that, Thanks Jackie!- then a school like a Florida will probably come calling in a few years, or he could have the option of staying and become one of the best in MSU history and become a legend. And when people mention MSU, they would mention his name first- unlike if he was at Florida where he would be "another good coach along with Spurrier, Meyer, etc." And like I said, if he fails, he just goes out and finds someone that wants a good OC and will pay him well and does that. Or goes back to Meyer. No shame in that at all, either.
