Said we had previously said the SEC wasn't ready for us. He said he didn't know if the SEC was ready for us but that "this SEC team was ready for them." Also said we were talking a bunch of junk during the game.

It is what is. Gamesmanship is part of the sport.

I do hope we didn't lose the game b/c we came in overconfident and full of ourselves. I do want our guys to be confident but carry the mentality that they have to fight for it. Maybe we got a bit full of ourselves after starting to get some good press over the weekend leading up to the game.

Paris seems like an even-keel guy, so I trust he can get the team grounded again and back in the right mindset.

lol...that's weak.

Yes, but I hope our team's mindset is in the right place and that we didn't actually feel we had arrived after beating MSU. I don't know if anyone on our team actually said the SEC wasn't ready for us. I sure hope not.

Stute did. He was asked if they're ready for the SEC schedule. He responded "are they ready for us?". I don't mind it. I like confidence. I like a little cockiness. This team has a chip on it's shoulder after being picked dead last in the SEC. Even Paris bristled at that. I wish Bama had a trip to Cola on the schedule this year. I'm glad he made those comments. I bet you Paris is going to play that clip in their meetings today.

Our guys committed the unforgivable act of talking a little junk. Nate can't allow that to go unanswered. I mean, he could overlook it if we had done something as insignificant as being involved in transferring a murder weapon.. but talking a little junk is just a step too far!

Cockiness is great when you can back it up, a la Johnny Manziel (as big of a prick as he was). It doesn't age well when you tell the opposing bench that the league isn't ready for you and then they relentlessly beat your a*s in the second half.

Bball is a different sport. You can't physically destroy someone if you get pissed like you can in football. Sometimes trash talk is effective, sometimes it's not. I prefer the bball team to be cocky...talk trash. Try to get in their heads. It didn't work out for us last night, but it clearly got to Oates. Maybe that will pay off later.

The team also seems even keel. I have been to many of the games and sit close to the floor. We don't get too up or down and I never see us talk smack.

Even if this did occur last night or prior to the game, it's in N.O.'s best interest to take the win and move on. Shut the pie hole this early in the SEC season.

Trash talk is part of basketball, for sure. Players are always jawing at each other during the game. What's odd is our players talking trash to the Bama bench. That's the part Oats took issue with, and I agree there. It's part of the game, but I think you keep in on the court and in the game.

Could be a sign our guys weren't focused. Hence the bloodbath curb stomping in the second half.

As Vienna pointed out, our guys have stayed relatively focused on the game all year. I find it odd that we just all of a sudden started doing this. I'm guessing they were just as responsible for the bench talk as we were. They got a T as well, and it was a reserve guy that never played...probably not even on scholarship. The announcers joked that "at least he got in the scorebook" haha.
