Johnny Dijulius, among others, is still absolutely yapping about a dual National Championship and making current Nationals only individual. Thinks both can be great events, completely disregarding the impact on current format at Nationals. If it was individual only there would be no bonus points, much less interest in backdraw, no real reason to root against another “team” (most of us don’t dislike 95% of the wrestlers but certainly are happy to root against their singlet in a team competition), etc. There might be chatter from a fan group than lacks the ability to do anything but chatter. There isn't any chatter from anybody that I have seen, nor heard that has the credibility nor the push to try and make this tournament anything other than what it is labeled, an early season invite that generated an early season interest.
The push and credibility last time came from the coaches association and Koll and Ryan waited until Cael, Smith and Brands were not available for the coaches vote. Koll and Ryan also used false information (lied) about NCAA involvement.
I hope the idea is dead. National duals is a fun early event and worth doing for bragging rights and fan entertainment if it can be scheduled in a way that doesn’t interfere with Freestyle schedule and early season conditioning considerations. Whether all top teams compete or not.
