Michigan will not come close to matching the output from the B10 tournament. Going through their lineup...

125-Suriano is one who "might" match his result
133-Ragusin could podium, but won't finish 3rd
141-Micic likely won't podium
149-Storr isn't qualifying (unless he gets an at-large)
157-Lewan isn't coming close to 2nd...will be lucky to podium
165-Amine...will certainly not be in the finals, could place top 6
174-Massa...will not reach the finals...loaded weight class
184-Amine is one of the other wrestlers in the lineup who could win it
197-Brucki has a chance of top 3, but unlikely
HWT-Parris, could outplace his B10 result

Whereas for Penn State:

125-Hildebrandt...have to think he can at least score some points this go round
133-should be a finalist
141-should be a finalist
149-not sure what we get out of BB...podium Is a possibility
157-Berge...probably not top 3 but has the potential. Should podium
165-not sure, will Edsell get an at-large? If so, can he win a match or two?
174-likely a finalist
184-at least top 3
197-could be a finalist
HWT-top 3 or 4

I think we easily outpoint Michigan at Nationals.

Good summary @clucas11. I would have expected Brooks to be slightly more aggressive at 184. He did not take as many shots as he could. Otherwise, to your point, wrestle to scratch and we should be fine.

The one thing I’m concerned about is Michigan will probably have a big crowd. I’m just hoping we show up in full force like we should for our wrestling program. We all know fans can have major influence especially on Refs. That’s why Cael always says stay on the Ref. Lol. Section of all White is awesome. The turnout in Nebraska was very disappointing. As one said Nationals are a whole different animal. Can’t wait.

He was aggressive and pushed and tried to go upper body instead of being aggressive and shooting. Michigan figured out how to attack him and go opposite foot so brooks and Sanderson learned a lot about that match just as they did with kerk and cass from first to second match.
Amine was gassed early and they made a mistake imo not taking top on second and riding him and making him work harder. Instead amine recovered and brooks worked harder and eventually was gassed.
First match plan worked well and it looks like they tried something different but it didn’t work.

Just this, Micic had a cake walk through the consis. He has not looked good at 141, he will get man handled at Nationals. I honestly think he doesn't score many points.
Meatchicken won't have the advantage of 6 Penn State wrestlers sitting out the first round.

Meatchicken isn't going to win Nationals.

Best reason of all; my grandson is going and he is 2-0 at Nationals - Cleveland and Pittsburgh. When Bo pinned MyMar and we were all screaming, he simply turned around and said, Bo Nickel saved the day.

Brooks doesn't need to change anything, he simply ran out of gas.

Has there been anything said officially about what happened with Hildebrant? Sick, injured or just not up to the task?

Not that I've seen or heard, no. But, I do think its notable that he injury defaulted out of the ninth/tenth match.

You are right in period three, but I actually thought he was too aggressive through the first two periods and wore himself out. He smothered Amine in the first period.

Another thing...the stall call against Aaron was mind-boggling. It seems to take forever for officials to call stalling on PSU opponents, but they are damn quick to call stalling on Penn State wrestlers. No idea why when a solid majority of PSU kids are the ones pushing the pace. 🤯

I don't know. He wrestled poorly all weekend. There are no team points in the mini-tourney. It was probably good to sit him out at that juncture, recollect and get ready to go.

disagree here re: it being notable he MFF that match. he won the match to get into the 9th/10th match, then MFF. there is no benefit to wrestling in the 9/10 match. he already clinched an auto bid. If he loses thats another loss against him (and he didnt have it this weekend), he wins it doesnt get any team points, it doesnt lock him up a spot (bc already earned it) and its a win vs. an inferior opponent that wont help too much for seed.

I understand that Drew isn't a TD machine and wrestles low scoring matches, but just my assessment that he wasn't 100% is based on other things. His mannerisms and downbeat attitude. I don't know how to explain it, but it just seems something wasn't right. If he was 100% I believe he would have wrestled against a #10 seed. It wouldn't have gotten him points but maybe 1 higher seeding spot? Cael doesn't duck hunt with healthy wrestlers.

Agree. But Drew MUST get better on his feet and be more aggressive. Just seems to be wrestling like Mr. Nice guy with no Urgency. Will see.

Be great if the athletic department would put out a tweet for EVERYONE to wear white so we all stand out. Sorta like Iowa always wears yellow at Nationals in their section.

Agree. I think Iowa will outscore Michigan too. They won’t MF unless they absolutely have to now.

One big difference at NCAAs: our hammers won't be sitting out the 1st round. Look for a bunch of bonus points.

Why does everyone at Iowa have shoulder issues? They all seem to wear that shoulder sling thingy.

You realize how slippery shoulder slings are because of the material ? I do think Kem has a shoulder that pops out occasionally.

So it’s a bit unethical, wear it bc it is harder to grip and no so much to do with injury. Sketchy.

Full disclosure: I cut and pasted this from my brother's personal text to my phone. He's never been able to figure out how to sign into On3, so I share with him some of the better posts. (See my username as I surprised myself trying to log in here for the first time, hence 'trying to do it right' and was successful! Haha!
He's a numbers guy, wrestling guy and loves predicting finals. I did (in the full disclosure mode) disagree with him on our texting back and forth that Dean was going to place enough for first. Now - the truth is out. I'm a fake!
