NDSU was robbed

Final drive of the game, they completed a pass down to their own 47 for a 1st down with 23 seconds left in the game. The refs missed a blatant, textbook targeting call. That would have moved the ball to the CO 38.

As it is, NDSU got down to the Colorado 4 as the game ended.

Crazy to me that for all the ticky tack stuff they flag for potential targeting, this one went unnoticed. Almost like they didn't to call it for some reason.

Also, it's humorous how hard on the announcers were for Colorado. Their first offensive play of the game was a 1 yard pass, to which the announcer said "great pickup on 1st down".

Really dumb of Shedeur to throw a pass to stop the clock. Pretty good college QB, but a dumb move. They look pretty good offensively, pretty porous defensively.

Not to mention the numerous "body contorting" catches that were just pretty normal catches with an added push off. Those OPI calls were just as obvious, but no one wanted to point that out.

I'd say the officiating was clearly rusty. There were a number of missed calls on NDSU as well, like the obvious hold on their second touchdown. Some big missed calls really helped Colorado late though, like the missed false start on the insane Hunter touchdown catch.

I think they are about what people predicted: Sanders and Hunter and a bunch of other folks. Nebraska game will be telling.
If Raiola looks good he did in the Spring, I trust their trench play enough to put Nebraska over Colorado. But you never know for sure about teams expecting a lot from newcomers until they play somebody.

To the targeting call though, I gripe and complain every season because it's gotten to the point that they flag almost any hard tackle above the waist as potential targeting. Then they spend 3 minutes reviewing it, even it's plainly obvious upon first glance that it was/was not targeting.

It's simply unconscionable that this wasn't flagged.

CU did allow 449 yards (292 passing, 157 rushing), so it seems, at least for this game, that their defensive struggles from last season have carried over. NDSU averaged 435.9 yards last year in FCS play.

A call could have been made, but "Unconsionable"? You need to take your "Rooting against Prime" glasses off. It was a graze at best and the offensive guy ducked his head and really wasn't defenseless. I expected upstairs to buzz in, but they probably saw it like I did and decided against it.

Lol… It was textbook. Hitting with the crown of the helmet, helmet to helmet, contact, contact with the head and the neck area… What else is missing?

And to clarify, I don’t believe in the targeting penalty that has pussified the sport. However, for what they call as targeting this is the textbook example. I have seen far far far more ticky tack examples called.

The only thing he forgot to do was launch.

No, it wasn't. Saw it live and slowed it down. The defensive guy lowered his head a little, but it was more shoulder than helmet and very few people are complaining about it except for you and a few other people on the internet. I think the missed false start on Colorado's last TD was a bigger miss than what you are referring to. Refs miss calls, but there was nothing in this game where you can reasonably say a team was robbed. NDSU got a chance that they didn't earn with Shadeur being dumb and trying to throw when NDSU had one timeout. Colorado's secondary was selfish and dumb going for a pick on that last play instead of knocking the ball down. So, bad breaks and other things happen and the final result "is what it is".

That stuff happens fast, but the remedy is so simple - eliminate helmets.

Yes, I know your shtick on here of taking the opposing point of view for the sake of being contrarian. Nobody who knows and understands college football is questioning if this was targeting as defined by the NCAA. Only questioning why it was not flagged.

It does happen fast and I think most targeting calls are bogus. Nevertheless, for how they have consistently flagged plays for potential targeting, not flagging this one is inexplicable.

There's no rhyme or reason, so eliminate the helmet and the players will police themselves soon enough.

I don’t disagree, but it would take years to implement. You’d have to start at the lowest levels and gradually implement it upwards.

Higher levels and institute it downward. Kids have more fragile crania and Mamas would freak.
