I’m a Nebrasketball sunshine pumper. I’m not overly impressed with the teams we’ve played so far. The conference will give us a MUCH better assessment of where we are. Having Mast back has been huge.Keep winning! Win the next 2 and we are likely talking about top 15 by the end of the year.
Non-conference schedule not as strong as it looked on paper, but NU can't control that. Creighton and K-State looking awful, while Oklahoma has been kind of hit-and-miss. Still think this non-conference slate was better than most years, in terms of getting ready for Big Ten play.I’m a Nebrasketball sunshine pumper. I’ve only been able to watch parts of a couple of games. What’s your assessment? I passed on going up to Sioux Falls for that game. Too much on my plate at the farm right then.Non-conference schedule not as strong as it looked on paper, but NU can't control that. I'm less excited about the 9-0 record than the fact that the Huskers have had some decent tests that will pay off in conference play. The BYU exhibition, for example, doesn't count for anything but it was still a good measuring stick. Same with the wins over SC-Upstate and Winthrop, who are both pretty good even though the Huskers won't get much love for those wins.I’ve only been able to watch parts of a couple of games. Looking through all of the power metrics shows Nebraska ending around 20-11, which probably seems about right. I think their floor is around 19-12 due to having a lot of options, with a decently high ceiling if they hit their shots, Reink is on, and rotate well on defense.I’m a Nebrasketball sunshine pumper. The biggest issue Nebraska gets on defense is finding good shooting teams that find that across the court pass and are patient. Creighton didn't move much. KSU hung around by finding that opposite side guy open for 3 with our overpursuit.Don't be surprised if you see similar things this year compared to last year. There will be times during the game when we look kind of sloppy on both ends of the ball, then times where we are all in sync and play competitively with any team in the country. The defense is going to need to play well more during those stretches than not. We might see a bit better defensive rebounding this year. Offensively, like almost every other team, our ability to hit 3s will be a key. Having Mast makes us slightly better this year in that phase. Having Mast makes us slightly better in all phases, actually. Sandfort may turn out to be as much of a threat as Tominaga was.
Losing Essegian for the year is going to hurt NU more than people think. Not that he has a tremendous shooting percentage from long range - but just the fact he CAN do it and has a reputation for being able to do it. Opponents have to game plan for him even if he is cold, because he has the ability to go on a heater at any time. Now, Jacobsen and Frager will take those minutes and looks. Frager made a 3 early against CU, then missed a couple. Jacobsen missed his first 3. After those misses, they didn't even look to shoot again. Defenses can adjust for that. (Hoiberg compensated against CU, but don't count on that every game).
Berke is slightly better. If he can stay healthy, he will be much more of an asset on defense and rebounding this year. He will never be an offensive threat. But he will get a chance to score around 8-10 points per game as he does have a bit of an inside game. Lawrence is a good addition this year. He is an effective PG and can make 3s. Hoiberg is the key defensive player. His energy on defense is almost as much of a factor as Ninja was a few years ago for the offense when he bombed 3 pointers.
Personally, I don't know if NU competes as well against the top 4-5 in the conference. But they should against all the other teams. Play well at home, and don't completely suck on the road, and prospects are good to go .500 in the league. Steal 1-2 wins against the top 5 in the conference and we are looking at a decent NCAA seed. I think Kong is correct in that if all falls into place, we may get a 7 seed. Win a game or 2 we aren't supposed to and might even squeeze into a 6 seed. Lose a couple games we aren't supposed to, and we will be on the bubble.
They will be worth watching again this year.
Well. I guess I’ve always found Husker basketball worth watching. Sometimes I wanted throw a rock at the TV. Doc gave me heartburn though. Creighton is more that a bit down.Creighton is a bit down this year, but the size of the victory is impressive. NU may really compete in the league this year.
Oklahoma and New Mexico will be Q1 wins at the end of the season. Oklahoma beat Wake Forest 82-66 on the road. The same Wake Forest team only has two other losses. A one point overtime neutral game loss to Michigan and a one point loss to Texas Tech. Oklahoma is a very capable team, and just cause Nebraska was Creighton's daddy again doesn't mean all the teams we beat suck.I’m a Nebrasketball sunshine pumper. I was doubtful they would even hit 12 wins after they lost to K state. Maybe they don’t suck as bad as it lookedEvery Creighton win helps Nebraska
Xavier was a decent win for Creighton but Marquette seems like they might be terrible.Big East outside of St John's and UConn might be down a bit of
I’m wondering even about St. John’s right now. No, they don’t suck, but from what I’ve seen over the last week there are a few other BE teams that can take them.Big East outside of St John's and UConn might be down a bit of
Xavier and Marquette are both pretty bad, but Jays have changed some things up and they are playing better. Finally getting some ball movement that leads to open shots.Xavier was a decent win for Creighton but Marquette seems like they might be terrible.
Often times figuring out a rotation and chemistry when you have a bunch of new players can take some time.Xavier and Marquette are both pretty bad, but Jays have changed some things up and they are playing better. Finally getting some ball movement that leads to open shots.
Traudt looks like a very different player right now. Instead of only running to the corner and standing there I saw him moving around even attempting to drive to the basket.Xavier and Marquette are both pretty bad, but Jays have changed some things up and they are playing better. I don’t know, they are 9-4 now that’s borderline decent in my opinionXavier seems to have had a decent team every year. What happened to them?
They should get a refund on NIL $ from Owen Freeman unless something changes he is contributing about half of what was expected from him dude doesn’t even start anymore.Often times figuring out a rotation and chemistry when you have a bunch of new players can take some time.
Not to make this Creighton oriented, but he may still be recovering from his injury. He’s a role player at best. At least he’s been playing like one. They should get a refund on NIL $ from Owen Freeman unless something changes he is contributing about half of what was expected from him dude doesn’t even start anymore.
A couple of Xavier's better players followed Sean Miller to Texas, and some others went elsewhere. I think they only have a couple returning players.Xavier seems to have had a decent team every year. What happened to them?
