Never noticed this scheduling quirk

Not sure if this has happened before - or if it is even fairly common:

PSU will play all three of its Western Conference opponents - before playing any from the East (then, of course, it is 6 straight against the Eastern Conference teams)

I've stopped trying to find any logic in how the conference formulates the Penn State schedule. All I know for sure is our first conference game is on the road almost every year.
Well, some have certainly made a lot of noise about "opening conference play on the road". Personally, I think that works to PSU's advantage (everyone plays 9 home, 9 away every two year cycle - and I'd rather have home games skewed to October / November than in September, when you know you'll have an overabundance of home payday games. But to each their own.)

I don't think the "play the W teams first, then play all your E divisional games", was intentional.... but I actually kind of like it as an idea, if it could have been worked out. I know divisions will be going away next year, but that woulda'/coulda' been pretty neat, I think.
Kinda' like how, back in the day, MLB teams spent the month of September playing all games within their division (that goes back a few decades now - but made for nice pennant races)

I don't see the opening on the road thing as a big deal either, as long as it's not week 1. NORMALLY, we've played a few cupcakes at home prior to the first BIG game. Time to hit the road. From a personal standpoint, it can be tough to travel to State College every single week in September for some.

Agree on all points

Entirely a guess on my part. Conference probably circulates a draft of the schedule, athletic directors provide feedback on what they want, and revisions are made. PSU says little or nothing, so gets scrwwed by the process.

They are looking to fill the position for Executive Vice President in Charge of Draft Football Schedules, and the position has only recently been posted on the University Website. So, until they fill the position.....

Speaking of scheduling quirks....

This weekend had a few Big Ten - ACC matchups

Minny - UNC
Rutgers- VaTech
Indiana- Louisville
Purdue- Syracuse
Maryland- UVA
Northwestern- Duke.

Seems odd that there would be six Big Ten - ACC matchups on the same weekend.

Minny - UNC - Minnesoda is really bad, I was there. My son was laughing at the Gophers' QB.
Rutgers- VaTech - Rutgers wins! Rutgers wins! I had heard about some precip in Hell on Saturday.
Indiana- Louisville - Embarrassing.
Purdue- Syracuse - omg, beyond embarrassing for Purdont.
Maryland- UVA - Cavs really bad so there you go... a win for Locks who is a buffet hawk with Bielema at the coach's conference.
Northwestern- Duke - was this a Quiz Bowl or a football game? Embarrassing B10 again.

Speaking of VT:

When Diaz leaves this offseason, maybe Pry will be available? He will still be paid by VT for the next 3-4 years, so it could be a Manny Diaz Part 2 deal, where PSU gets a DC for minimum wage(ish).

(Seriously, I expect Pry will get another year or two..... but where they are at right now won't provide a lot of job security. They are a dumpster fire.)
