Some positive news on the new rules. I'm not sure I agree that the stolen base number is going to stagnate but I guess we'll see.
On another note, I think it's time to tear down the Oakland Coliseum or move the team to Pittsburgh. They can share the stadium like the Jets and Giants do.
The A’s played the GUARDIANS. . How many A’s fans figured it was an exhibition against a minor-league team?
Never mind. The Indians wouldn’t have made a difference.
2022: 8.56 RPG for the entire season. He surely had the runs per game numbers right in front of him when he wrote this. Why not share them?
Yes. Last season was a recent low in RPG. I like all of the steal attempts. It brings the catchers arm and accuracy back to relevancy.2022: 8.56 RPG for the entire season.
2023: 9.16 RPG. Too early to tell anything. The 9.16 is not an outlier for recent RPG, it was higher in both ‘19 and ‘20.

But limiting the pitchers ability to hold the runner really screws the catchers. A very high percentage of successful steals are on the pitchers not the catchers.Yes. Last season was a recent low in RPG. I like all of the steal attempts. It brings the catchers arm and accuracy back to relevancy.
It does. And the bases are significantly bigger so the distance between bases is shorter. It might go back to the old days when the catchers had cannons but could barely hit.But limiting the pitchers ability to hold the runner really screws the catchers. "The primary reason why the bases are bigger is safety, giving fielders and runners more room to operate without colliding."Can someone explain to me the reasoning behind making the bases bigger??
I had to ask, thanks. I thought it may have had something to do with the hundreds of women who told me I would never get to first base, no matter the size!"The primary reason why the bases are bigger is safety, giving fielders and runners more room to operate without colliding."
Catcher’s pop times can only be so fast….without pitchers holding runners on, catchers have very little chance even with cannons. My son was a catcher and had a really good pop time (especially at the high school level) and he had a hard time throwing guys out with certain pitchers on the mound because they couldn’t hold anyone on.It does. Well then pitchers need to adjust and get faster to the plate or pitch out of the stretch. Otherwise, it's on the catcher to be elite at throwing runners out. Either way, the overall stolen base record will be broken this season and I think it adds to the game rather than teams depending on HR. Teams with speed should be more competitive against the teams that try to stack the lineup with power hitters. But as you know, if you limit base runners or HR, you limit these issues. It makes pitching that much more of a premium.Catcher’s pop times can only be so fast….without pitchers holding runners on, catchers have very little chance even with cannons. Home runs per team per game:An interesting question: how do the home run rates compare? There seem to be a lot more singles than last year. With equal home run rates, I would expect a higher jump in runs per game than what we’re seeing, 8.56 to 9.16. I’ll get on it later, good discussion here. I’ve said before that the clock really adds to my enjoyment, I too am loving it.
Hitters are “better” because they are able to take away the inside half of the plate with their body armor. They only have to be concerned with the outside half of the plate.Maybe the pitchers. Not sure about the hitters though. Especially the LH batters against the shift ... I have no idea WHY they can't learn to hit to the left and make the shift worthless.
