I don't love this solution. I'm glad it affects the guys in Oxford, but this feels like an overcorrection.

I felt like the 'no return until the next first down' or 'no return for the series' was a better solution.

I do too but I wonder if that’s too much for everyone to track. It also allows you to run a scrub onto the field and have him fall down. This would punish that.

“after the ball is spotted by the officiating crew for the next play,”

You just have them fall down at the end of the play and before the ball is spotted.
right this seems like an obvious miss here. Like Lane won't have players just staying down every other play.

The logistics of actually getting that decided, communicated, & done before the ball is spotted won’t be simple. And if you’re a second late it costs you a time out.

one glance after each play and a signal.... That doesn't seem very hard to me. I guess it's one more thing to manage but it can give your defense a chance to reset.

Oh I think it could still happen some. But all it takes is being late once & you lose the time out. There is some risk there. And that will stop a lot of it.

I don't know. I think this might do it. Think about the most egregious instances of the fall down. It is when an offense is rolling and the defense is in disarray. When the defense is looking towards the sideline with their arms out and someone just drops. Clearly trying to buy time. Same thing on offense. Big play of the game and they didn't get the play in time. Then a running back just drops.

Or tell someone to fall down everytime the opposing team has a 15 yard play or back to back first downs
