Doesnt Michigan State use "State" quite often?

Yes. I have several friends that are Michigan State grads and they refer to themselves as State as well. I believe Michigan State had the State script at one time on their helmet.

Yep. As well as this from back in the day. Pretty much every State school calls themselves State. We're far from unique on that.

Hmm. Do you or have you ever lived up there? Do they have any "STATE" branding? Do others refer to them as "STATE" like us? BTW, wished we coulda got NC State, NC, VA Tech, VA instead of MO.

Worked with one of my good friends for 22 years who’s from Wilmington, graduated from NC State, and constantly refers to them as “State.” Otherwise, no—haven’t spent a a lot of time in Raleigh.

They did shamelessly rip off Mullen’s “This is our State!” billboard campaign.

I don't have many (any) interactions with NC State fans, but the UNC fans I have interacted with DO refer to them as 'State'. IMO it was in a derogatory fashion.
