....that we offer the existing one to Louisiana Tech for free in exchange for a home game the last weekend of August.

That's a dumb idea to keep the old one. I can't imagine what the use would be for having a second jumbotron running technicolor images.

Maybe they are thinking the old one could be a source of ad revenue.

Also, they could run statistics and, *gasp*, other game scores without interrupting the main screen.

I just don't like the idea of having a jumbotron that will never be fixed. They can't even get parts to fix it.

I think we are getting ribbon boards for that.

What's wrong with having the old one still in place? It's a good idea. It's not like it will hinder anything.

is that is an old, ugly, antiquated, barely functioning piece of ****. If, and I stress IF, they completely overhauled & refurbished it, then it would be fine to leave it. As it is now, it is an eyesore and its shittiness will only be magnified by the new one at the other end of the stadium.

....it's completely outdated and Sony doesn't make them anymore. We have to get parts for it already on the secondhand market. I don't have a problem with the facade if they put a smaller HD board in where the Sony board is now.

</p>I don't see how they can keep it. At least in it's current state. eventually the parts to fix it will run out and you have a blank screen sitting there. Then you have to pay to have it removed after you have already had the personell and equipment on campus to remove it.

They have one big screen on one end and two smaller screens on the other. As of last May, all three looked brand new.

they are probably thinking about the expansion construction. Rather than having to build around a new screen, they'll put it on top of the M-Club and leave the older screen where it is for ads and scores. Then, when/if they do expand seating in the North endzone, you completely remove everything that exists in that area, and construct the seating and gadgets the way you want it without any limits or complications due to an already existing new board. When this happens, we will probably have the HD board still on top of the M-Club, with newer screens and technology on the expansion end.

Just a thought.

And by the way, if we've got the largest HD screen in Mississippi on top of the M-Club, who's even going to bother to look at the old **** on the other side of the stadium?

the recruits and other official guests & whoever else that sits in the M-Club for the games. Just a guess.

If the old board is going to be replaced with a new one in the existing structure, then I'm fine with leaving the existing structure in place. If not, then it needs to come down.

Also, when will it be announced as to what company we will choose. Will Daktronics be able to put in both ours and Ole Miss' at the same time?

don't give a **** about watching the jumbotron while they're eating in the M-club... And most of them are in the stands during the game anyways. As for other guests, you're talking about less than 1% of the crowd. And it's not like the old board doesn't work. Yeah, it's outdated, but it's functional.

I would think what's on the jumbotron would be broadcast on a tv in the mclub. its just a matter of seeing a score.

about the recruits watching the screen during the game or even where they sit during the game. I'm talking about the overall impression that the screen makes as a part of the stadium as a whole. The last game I was at was the LSU skull flocking this past season. I had an LSU friend with me that had never been to MSU. He didn't say anything, but I remember thinking how ****** and outdated the scoreboard & screen looked.

Honestly, I don't see why they need to keep it up, especially if they are putting up the ribbon boards. It will serve no real purpose.

...didn't the current video board go up during the summer months of 1998? I don't remember it taking a long time. With still nearly three months till kickoff, they should have plenty of time if the deal is done, at least not knowing what lead times are like on video screen equipment. I bet the whole thing could be constructed in a month.

Now instead of just one out of sync and totally underutilized scoreboard/ replay screen- we'll have 2. I can only imagine the chaos that will ensue. Band plays, Hank Flick speaks, Small board blasts one commercial (where the audo and video don't match up), and the Large board plays something entirely different. All the while the ribbon boards will "update" us on scores from around the country- that were final yesterday.

(My point here is regardless of what we do, hopefully someone competent to run it comes with it.)

...only face it out toward the Junction. On gamedays put up scores or live video of other games.

/don't worry about it looking like **** the other 359 days of the year.

Though, its obvious we dont have the money. But if our HD board was a back and a front. The whole junction would have an enourmous HD screen to watch the game on. Itd make the junction that much better.

but I don't think having a screen facing the Junction is a good idea at this time. Right now, we rarely fill the stadium. I can see people choosing to stay in the Junction & not go into the game if we show it on that screen. I know some people probably do it now, but I imagine more would do it if they could watch the game outside and never have to buy tickets. Now, if the outside screen showed other games around the country prior to our game (or after it) but was shut off during our game, then I think it is a great idea. Now, if the game is sold out, then that would be a different story.

it is a damn good idea for revenues too. they sell ads during the game which only lasts for so many hours. sell ads for pre-game too. instead of turning it off during our game, run ads on it with scores at the top.

i think it would separate our tailgait substantially from others if we did something like this.

....I don't think the idea of the video screen is to encourage people to stay outside the stadium.
