Back in the "old days" they issued a new metal tag every year. Most states did I think. It seems like Mississippi changes their basic plate far more often than other states. I assume somebody's brother in law makes money off this scheme.
Law enforcement and firefighters death benefit trust fund.I don’t see the black out plates. What charity does it support? I like the look.
Interesting.........all 3 cars in my driveway have 3 letters and 4 numbers. And it's been that way for the last 50 years. No reason to have the 4th number. With 3 letters and 3 numbers, that's over 17 million unique tag numbers. In a state with only about 2 million vehicles. I think we'll survive with 3 letters and 3 numbers, just like we have for most of the last 50 years.
Not in Mississippi it hasn't. It's been 3 letters and 3 numbers since 1973 except for 3 letters and 4 numbers from 1987-1992 and 2019-2023.Interesting.........all 3 cars in my driveway have 3 letters and 4 numbers. And it's been that way for the last 50 years.

Weren't there also some years when trucks had seven characters and cars had six?Not in Mississippi it hasn't. It's been 3 letters and 3 numbers since 1973 except for 3 letters and 4 numbers from 1987-1992 and 2019-2023.
Possibly. I know generally trucks would get 2 letters and 4 number for most of those years though. Example, instead of ABC 123, trucks would get AB1 234.Weren't there also some years when trucks had seven characters and cars had six?
Back in the 60s they had auto weight class on the tag. For instance, I was in Lauderdale County. Tags were LA-XXXX, LB-XXXX, and LC-XXXX, and LD-XXXX. The A was for small compact cars, D was for behemoths (Cadillac, Lincoln and such).Weren't there also some years when trucks had seven characters and cars had six?
Have lived in Desoto County Mississippi since 1984 and I have never had a plate with only 6 total letters and digits. Maybe aliens have visited where you live. Not in Mississippi it hasn't. It's been 3 letters and 3 numbers since 1973 except for 3 letters and 4 numbers from 1987-1992 and 2019-2023.

The thought of the State of Mississippi (or Mississippi State) having a strategic marketing plan embodying that tactic borders on astonishing to me.One wonders if it's intentional to get the upsell to other plates
Well, you haven’t had Mississippi plates then.PatDog......You can put up 6-numbered plates all day long and on Sundays too. I've never had one since I've lived in Mississippi beginning in 1978. Don't know what else to tell you. I'm sorry, but I have looked at every plate I have ever put on my vehicles in Mississippi,
They tried that a few tag generations ago. They looked like dogs***, so they went back to the traditional letters & numbers.Has Mississippi gone to silkscreen letters and numbers yet?
Can be replaced anytime.Does anyone know if you can replace a specialty plate with a new one anytime you want or do you have to wait until you go in and pay for it? I was wanting to go from a high school tag to an MSU tag.
Maybe if Haley was Guvnah. The thought of the State of Mississippi (or Mississippi State) having a strategic marketing plan embodying that tactic borders on astonishing to me.
