I for one am glad to see this. I've cringed for years every time I see one of those types of tackle occur. To me, it's just as dangerous or moreso as/than a horsecollar. I wonder if the ban will trickle down to the college game.

Now I wait for all the "just slap flags on their hips" posts.....;)

In totally unrelated news...seriously, there's no connection at all...just a coincidence...really, they only care about player safety...for real

In the heat of the moment can you avoid tackling that way?
I never played the game, so I can't speak to that. But it seems that that style of tackle didn't exist - well, wasn't anywhere near as prevalent - 10yrs ago. That's just my observation. Again, not arguing - just my observation. ✌️

I'm not quite sure what you just said, but I liked the self-effacing manner in which you said it.😊

By the way. I don't even know what this "style" of tackling is, but I'm probably ok with it. Football has been pansyized enough already. No one does anything for the defense anymore.

Why doesn't the NFL just go with the junior high flag football belts and we can have infinite instant replays to determine if the ball carrier is guilty of ''fanning'' to prevent the defense from pulling the flag for the tackle?
Just for you 92Pony, didn't want you disappointed.

I've made a few tackles like that but that's just the way it played out. Nothing intentional. And I played when clothes lines and horse collars weren't usually flagged.

How the heck are you supposed to tackle. Wait til the refs start this call. Game changers. They will call it like the proverbial hold at crucial moments. Comical

Just like a QB slide, call the player down (not a joke)
Maybe they can wear flags that can be pulled (joke)

Just do away with physical tackling and let AI make a virtual tackle. AI triggers the whistle around the refs neck when done

The NFL released this video to demonstrate the "tackle". I leave this here without comment.

Then how in the hell are you supposed to tackle? Back in my day we were taught to plant our facemask in their chest and drive through them in a head on tackle. In a side tackle we were taught to go for the hips, slide to the legs, then roll. I know it seems brutal to the pansies of today but the goal was to win. Take out their best players helped achieve that goal. We might as well be playing flag football these days.

The way you're describing tackling is still 100% legal - and the way it should be done.

You ever see the rodeo where a guy is on a horse and jumps on the bull and tries to wrestle it to the ground by its head/neck?

That's basically the hip drop tackle, but the defensive player has the offensive player around the waist and drags his hip to try and take him down.

I saw the video submilled above. That's an age-old football play. just part of the game. Stupid to outlaw it. Let's just put defenders in straight jackets.

They meant to ban hip hop but someone changed it to hip drop at the last minute. Ha
