New questions to contemplate

  • We've got to be in the playoffs even if lose to Oregon but could we lose out on a home game?
  • Would we fall behind ND?
  • Would OSU be ahead of us?
  • Could we possibly be #1 or #2 if we beat Oregon?
  • Will 2 loss OSU stay ahead of 1 loss Indy?
  • Health of players?

I have seen some OSU fans comment that OSU may have lost the game on purpose because it seemed like they really didn’t want to be there or were on the top of their gam. They were avoiding another potential loss against Oregon and benefitting from an extra week off.

Not what I am saying, but some OSU faithful have stated this. I just think they laid an egg.

Found one of the comments I mentioned above.

”I'm sure this was mentioned but any chance they threw the game? With a 12 team playoffs they were bound to get in with their record especially after beating highly ranked Penn State and Indiana. They don't have to play a meaningless BIG 10 championship with a team they already played and might have to play again in the playoffs. They get potentially another home game in the playoffs. So they give up a BIG 10 championship game in Indy for a home field game in the first round of the playoffs. Bjork and Day thinking big picture and more revenue at their home stadium? Hope it pays off but I'd rather just beat SCUM. For me that is my Super Bowl every year for college sports not the Natty.”

Makes perfect sense...Buckeye giving a game to Michigan. You can't make this **** up.

They are so full of crap. No way in hell they would purposely lose to Michigan. It is their most important game.

Based on the talk all week, the loser of the Big championship game was no lower than 6. As it stands now, even if Texas were to win tonight and lose next week, maybe they end up as 5/6 (ND is the other) and PSu should go no lower than 7.

Doubtful
Probably
Maybe, more likely if Oregon blows us out
Yes, especially if Texas loses another game
Probably, but they probably shouldn't
Good news is no new major injuries happened today

That gives the committee the wiggle room to organize the matchups they’d prefer and avoid PSU vs Indy or Georgia vs Tennessee type games in the playoffs.

If somebody is tossed in the second half for targeting, will they be suspended from playing the first half of the playoff game?

I see very little benefit to PSU in playing this game.

They didn't play great but they played hard. I don't believe they lost on purpose.

Except that if they win, they’re probably the number one overall seed and at minimum number two.

A lot of our key players are from the 6th ranked recruiting class of 2022. Most of them will be gone after this year and subsequent recruiting classes have been ~ 15th. PSU could really use a BiG title to jumpstart recruiting.

Sure, but what’s the benefit? Home field advantage in one more playoff game? Nobody better get hurt or disqualified in the second half.

It was obvious that this outcome was going to bring the conspiracy wackjobs out of the woodwork.

Right — Ryan Day, already under fire for being unable to win The Game — is going to throw one to 6-5 Michigan AT HOME. Forget it. Did not happen.

I mean other than, I dunno, winning the Big Ten.

Even ignoring the chance to get a bye in the CFP and #1 or 2 seed.

Well, OK then. If we win and get a bye, I now see why it’s worth playing. I thought we’d still have to play in a playoff game.

If those fans actually believe that, then I don't ever want to hear them proclaim again that what they call "The Game" is the most important thing on the annual calendar next to Christmas and a bigger rivalry than the ancient Israelites vs. the Philistines. If you think you could throw a game against your archrival, then what you claim is such a big deal truly isn't.

Every team that plays in the 1st round who did NOT play in their CCG gets a defacto bye, and their bye actually allowed them to heal some injuries.

Penn State plants a flag as a top team in conference (OSU is a mess - if they don’t win a NC, they may run Day out of Ohio on the back of a horse; Michigan is gonna Michigan). Ride the momentum, maybe win the B1G. The good news is the committee has been very favorable to CCG runners-up in the past - just need to keep things respectable.

Winning B1G didn't work out so well for us in 2016...
Yes it did, we won the Big…same thing that’s being said 30 years later about the 94 team…at least we have a conference championship that year, otherwise we’d have nothing to show for an undefeated season.
