Except that if they win, they’re probably the number one overall seed and at minimum number two.
Play one more game now to maybe have one less game in a couple weeks. Add in a likely tougher opponent in the round of 8 for the winner of this game.

Don’t see the benefit other than if one enjoys thumping their chest about a conference champ label.

how would they get a tougher opponent in the QF if they win? They would be the 1 or 2 seed and play the 8/9 winner or 7/10 winner. Otherwise they are the 5 or 6 and play either 3 or 4 in that round.

I have little doubt that the winner of the 8/9 game would be a tougher team than the team that ends up as the 4th seed. Using the current AP poll, that would be Tenn/tOSU compared to Boise.

If a team were 2nd/6th seed, that would equate to UGA/Ind compared to SMU. That said, I’m not confident PSU holds onto 6th with a loss. I’d be more confident if they weren’t playing.

The about doesn’t even consider the wear and tear of playing the extra game.

For fun look at the coach's poll by school...most all of mid-west B10 schools voted for Nebraska and not their B10 member Penn State!
I've always thought that some of that was recruiting. Easer to recruit vs a team that was only a Big 10 champion rather than a National Champion. And Cooper voted for Nebraska after the 63-14 butt-kicking.

also doesnt consider the bye week they would get to rest and prepare.

So you are saying only THIS year you would prefer to not play in the BIG championship because of the way the bracket appears to work out? Because otherwise I would disagree with your premise

If a team (Oregon) was deemed champion at this point, they would not have an additional forced game opportunity to incur an injury that other playoff participants aren’t not required to have.

The CCG losers who make the CFP are at a disadvantage compared to their first opponent in this regard.

We are discussing this season.

In general see the above comment that I believe CCGs are unnecessary. I think CFP participants should all play the same number of games in qualifying for the expanded tournament.
