deshaun watson taken off the field on a cart. Speculation is a torn Achilles.

Really confused on what's happening with Daniels. Thought the injury was non-contact, and don't ever remember seeing a non-contact broken rib. And then thought the x-ray would be pretty quick...can't believe there is still no info.

Then again, it's unlikely to matter today.

Daniels just now came out to the sideline, smiling and waving. A good sign.

Now 0-34 Washington, halfway through the third. Carolina is a very bad team.
They can run the ball, but they totally abandoned the run today when they got down (and have a few times this season). That Pick-6 from Fowler really changed the game. And the fact that they can't stop the run kills them in a game like this.

The Browns are a mess. You could argue that this injury may benefit them.
His contact is an absolute anchor on their franchise right now. I have no idea where they go moving forward, as Watson working out is about the only positive option.

And that’s why they never win anything. Dumb front office decisions.

Some further context...

Releasing Watson would cost the Browns a $172+ million dead cap hit. Even if they did it as a post-6/1 move to spread it out over two years, it would cost them about $119 million next year, and about $54 million the following year. The biggest single season dead cap hit until this point was Denver taking a $53 million hit to move on from Wilson.

The Browns only "hope" is for something to come back on Watson strongly enough to get him suspended and his contract somehow voided.

So the injury doesn’t really change a thing?

How? Cutting him isn't an option really.

I see no way that he just voluntarily leaves $100,000,000+ on the table. He'll be back next season.

Yeah, that seems highly unlikely. He's guaranteed through 2026. (salary: 2024 - 1,210,000; 2025 - 46,000,000; 2026 - 46,000,000) He has a full no-trade clause thru 2026. His signing bonus was $44.965 M, so even if he doesn't come back, or is cut, the cap hit on the Browns would be huge (combo of signing bonus and guaranteed salary). For example, in 2025, his cap hit would be $72,935,000, and the dead cap would be $172,770,000. In 2026, his cap hit would be $72,935,000, and the dead cap would be $99,835,000. FWIW, he's going to be a cap hit to the Browns in 2027, even though he'll be a FA. In 2027, his cap hit will be $26,900,000, and the dead cap will also be $26,900,000. The Browns structured things so that his contract is back loaded, so the worse years of the cap hit are in 2025 and 2026. His cap hit numbers and dead cap numbers this season are not nearly as bad as 2025 and 2026 (cap hit: $27,942678; dead cap: $200,712,678)

Actually, I don't think that will help the Browns. Reportedly, he has language in his contract that stipulates that if he is suspended he doesn't forfeit his signing bonus and his future guarantees are not voided.

Nope...the Browns fully guaranteed the rest of the $ in his contract to free up more $ in the short term. So basically, as long as Watson wants to get paid, he shows up (barring a catastrophic injury...while the achilles is "just" a really bad injury).

I believe I read that this was true for all of the "known" accusers (they wrote that in). But new accusers/charges could put some of the guarantees in jeopardy.
