what would need to happen for CFB to adopt an NFL model? Players as employees of teams under contract. Salary cap and elimination of external funding of players comp to play (i.e. not NIL which is players doing insurance commercials). Teams members of league where rules are enforced on the teams under the league contract (i..e. immune from litigation for anti-trust), etc.

This seems to be where we are going, but a lot or resistance in society.

The other model seems to be leave it alone, and only give the players their "fair share" of the TV revenue. Otherwise leave the players as student athletes with all the other benefits. That would seem to create a Title IX problem as well as these $$$ fund the AD. You of course could cancel the AD and the other sports and make them club. I think the legal system and society will fight that model unless you take the $$$ and give to everyone and the universities just take the hit financially during a time when national enrollments will be plunging.

“College” Football

😞

I stepped into my garage this morning and glanced at my car. Here it is, 2024, and I still have a PSU “Success With Honor” license plate frame on the car. I’m such an a$$hole. 😞

The athletes need to organize as a Union. That's what will eventually be anyway. Until then the Wild West.

Btw this book (which came out in '89!!!) talks about making college football "age restricted professional football" with affiliations between NFL teams and colleges. For example, Penn State might be the age restricted professional affiliate of the Steelers. The Steelers help pay for the cost of the program, and in exchange get right of first refusal of any players coming out. Etc etc.

The author is a former Northwestern player. Pretty insightful for having been written 35 years ago when players were still being bowl banned for accepting a suit to go to award ceremonies...

Thisnwas before conferences were getting millions and millions from TV contracts. No need to have the pro teams pay - these schools can do it on their own.
