our niece was a gymnast and engineering student at a D3 school in Wisconsin, and my wife has donated to one member of the women's gymnastics team who is in STEM. We were visiting there on Friday and watching some of the girls who are doing some pretty cool stuff to earn NIL $$. Interestingly, the top NIL$$ are going to one of the girls who is not in their top 3-4 on the team in terms of results. She happens to be a mech eng major, so my wife was going to donate $1k to help her tuition. The coach asked us to consider other girls for the funds. Turns out this girl is earning good funding for D3 gymnastics, and is kind of a whole package - academic, communication skills and has developed a few trick moves. She also stands out in terms of looks, which she is maximizing. The coach feels that she is creating a problem on the team, and feels this girl should pass some of the money around.
