No, this is not a "lil ole Carolina is NIL broke and needs your $5/mth or we'll never win another game" post.

Came across this tweet. It's just a reminder, there are A LOT of slimy people running collectives. I think GT and CR are pretty solid. But this stuff is terrible. Kids getting taken advantage of left and right by adults that should know better. For a lot of people, this a brand new industry...a gold rush, if you will, that they're trying to take advantage of before it comes regulated. On TOS they were talking about how there are going to be a lot of big time portallers (just came up with that) bc the schools couldn't meet the NIL deals they promised. So this portal season is going to be nuts. But imagine that...the same people that are telling us about the millions and millions they have in NIL $$ can't meet their commitments. So are we really that far behind or not?? Simply no way to tell. Our approach to NIL vs other schools remind me of the old joke about the old bull and young bull on the hill. Young bull tells the old bull "lets run down there and get us a cow!!". Old bull said "why don't we walk down and get 'em all".

If you want to give, give. But don't be guilted into it bc someone tells you we waaaaaay behind. You cannot believe anything you hear from them. Like the HBC said. Smart people don't believe everything they hear.

I kind of get it.

However, athletes demanded this opportunity, so let them figure it out for themselves. Why is it on the universities to educate them about how to make good deals? It's a mess of their own making. It's like states that start lotteries and then have to start support hotlines to help people who are addicted to the lottery.

NCAA needs to make collectives go away. That would be an easy fix. NIL needs to be what it was supposed to be: an opportunity for athletes to profit from their name/image/likeness on their own. Of course, we all know, there's a handful of players out there nationally who could actually do anything meaningful with it, but the opportunity is there for everyone.

Just regulate it and the schools take a small percentage from ticket sales and give it to the players and keep it even then like the post above let each individual make money off jersey sales or meet and greets or whatever other opportunities they get. That way everyone has a small baseline "salary" but the better players will get more opportunities to make more money which will be based off their play. This isn't hard to navigate but the NCAA just saying we are still collecting these billions and you guys donate and figure it out the rest is the same problem it was originally.

All "collectives" should be banned. Period. End of statement.

Am I wrong for hoping the IRS gets involved?

Since these 'people' are now professionals, I assume scholarships, dorm room, meals and N.I.L., as well as, several perks, would all be considered taxable income.

N.I.L. "We're NOT Professionals! We just want to be paid like we are!"
