Eh. I get the point. The issue I bring up is that most people on here are graduates and fans for many many years before paying these players like this was a thing. This is a pretty big change. Many already contribute quite a bit to South Carolina athletics, and with not a ton of return on the field over many years. The sport (football) will never have enough $$. It’s $25 now, but if we’re to take the next step it will be $50. Then $100. Once these schools and players know how much they can get, they’ll just ask for more.
I think what you’re going to see, instead, are people weighing whether or not they are going to get involved in supporting all of this. They’ve given so much already. I doubt it all backfires, but I won’t be shocked in a decade or so to see some schools struggling mightily in having funds for this. They can go watch the NFL and get something for the $ they give.
As far as the voting analogy, as citizens we are given that right. We don’t have to pay $25 / month for it. Our vote impacts on how much we end up paying in the end, though. Many have already invested so much in this university. I don’t blame a soul for never giving a dime to the Garnet Trust, and feel they can complain all they want. This has gone so much further than just college sports at this point. I miss the old days.
