They urged him to take up football after they adopted him? Did they really portray it that way in the movie?
He played football before Briarcrest, the Briarcrest head football coach submitted Oher's application to the school, and a year later Oher was 1st team all-state and player of the year in his conference while still living with five different familes. It wasn't until the next spring, after Lemming called Oher the next great left tackle and college coaches were flying in from all over the country, before the Tuohys took him in for good.
