Curious to see what changes he will make to the offense next year or will he stay similar to what Dowell was running.

I'm probably the only one on here who thinks we're fine with Adaway, Howell, and Matthew Fuller. I'm more concerned with the WR's. I would love for Nyck Harbor or Mazeo Bennett to break out but until this happens we will have to rely on short quick hitters. On D, we have many holes on the line and LB.

Did it seem like Sellers was tentative to take off running in the game? There were a number of times where he had enough green grass in front of him to take off and gain 10 or 15 yards, but he seemed insistent on completing a pass - sometimes when the pass was only to a receiver standing 5 yards in front of him. It just made me wonder if coaches have been in his ear telling him he has been too quick to give up on his progressions before taking off.

This year, it seemed our offense starts with Sellers making plays with his feet, and then everything else starts to fall into place. But in the bowl game, it just seemed like he was trying to be a pass-first QB too often. I hope this was an aberration and not a sign of Shula's influence. Let Sellers be Sellers.

You're not the only one who noticed that. It was discussed during the game on the game thread. It did seem out of character for LS.

YES!
I don't know if that was a part of the gameplan, or his own personal philosophy coming into this particular game...but he was hesitant to tuck it when cov'g was good. At least 7-10 plays (even some on completed passes) where it looked like an easy 10 yard gain if he tucked it once the defense had spread into cov'g.

Don't love the Shula pick. I understand it...the continuity, experience, etc.
He has a track record with similar type player (C. Newton). But, I did not like the bowl game gameplan and philosophy at all personally.

As mentioned, this was discussed (notably in the "crapping the bed" thread) and I mentioned that on the post-game interview Todd asked Shane about Sellers lack of running and was it part of the plan. Beamer didn't answer it directly, which makes me think it was since he looked so different from the performances that had many mentioning him for Heisman.

I don't understand why you'd fix something that isnt't broken.

"Hey honey, I thought we'd use Barry Sanders as a blocking back today. Whaddaya think?"

Thanks for the responses. I figured it had probably been talked about in an earlier thread, but I haven't been able to bring myself to do a deep-dive into most of the post-bowl threads, for obvious reasons. lol.

If it was a point of emphasis for Sellers to run less, the only silver lining is that it's better to discover that's a bad gameplan in this bowl game than against Va. Tech next Labor Day weekend.

I was thinking exactly what you mentioned. Use this bowl practice and game to see what they have. Also missing the main running threat at RB didn't help. Hopefully improvements in that aspect especially.

If the bowl was any indication, more of the same. I was not impressed, but then again, sellers looked simply pedestrian. Overthrew WIDE OPEN receivers by more than 5 yards and didn't throw to receivers when they were coming open out of breaks.

At some level I can see them trying to keep sellers in the pocket so he didn't run the risk of getting injured on a run so that we were going to the offseason healthy, but it certainly hurt our scoring chances

Especially without Rocket you would think there would have been no restrictions placed on Sellers running, which obviously has been a huge part of our winning. Hopefully there weren`t.

On paper they were suppose to beat the brakes off Illinois with little to no effort. They thought they could accomplish this without getting Sellers dirty, therefore him running was not in the game plan.
