Nobody will be surprised by what we want to do to on offense going forward. Wins going forward will be very hard fought. Who do you see us beating besides Wolford? Agree Beamer put us behind the 8 ball with the fake. It will be necessary to try those plays going forward but not right off the bat. Give our defense a chance to keep us in the game. We can’t play from behind, not built for it.

That fake was pretty unwise. Too early, bad field position. By running on 3rd and long it gave the message we would probably go for it. They had their starting DLine in for the punt. Not only does Beamer not call the fake off, he doesn't even change it to something other than a run right into their strength. Maybe he didn't even recognize their DLine was still in??? C'mon, man! Do better. This turning into a waste of a fine defense.

No creativity at all in our offense.
HS teams are more creative.
We do not have the OL talent to run between the tackles when we need 3-4 yards for a 1st down.

It’s sad to waste such good defensive talent on such a putrid offense. Sellers is a good athlete, but still looks like a deer in the headlights.

Vanderbilt OL is much better than ours. Moved the ball on Bama all day and even at the end they were getting first downs to run out the clock.

This is the problem with the entire offense. Like it or not, you are only as productive as your OL.

Clemson had all kinds of skill guys, but struggled against teams that were good upfront. You can only run so many screens. if you recall, we used to make fun of them for that very reason. Having Watson was huge, but their OL got significantly better as well…a lost fact from their really good teams.

We haven’t been good upfront in a loooong time.

Great point. I’ve always thought that really, any fake is dumb unless it works. But, I had a bad feeling about this one very early on. I initially was thinking of game time. I did not think about your point. They probably knew after the third down run play we were going to fake the punt. That’s why even before the play… my thought was “let’s line up and try to get it”… our ones against their ones. when you fake the punt you are relying solely on surprise. Obviously, they were not surprised.

BINGO! For them, it started with skill players. They had a creative O that scored a lot of pts in the A-She-She. For 5yrs, we bested them in the trenches (with a few skill players of our own - but the trenches is where the difference was). They built on the fun O, that attracted skill players, by then adding talent in the trenches - and they've sustained! We've had a decent D here and there, but have sucked on the OL for 10, 11, 12yrs now.
