It's getting harder and harder to have any confidence in the game day coaching. We had plenty of missed opportunities in terms of play execution, but it's the coaches' job to at least call the right play based on the situation. This was really crap.
Ironically I'd take a FG over a trick play on 4 and 2 in the redzone
Eh I’ll give you that, he’s the best guy on the team.He is clearly immensely better than any other QB on the team...it doesn't mean that anyone thought he was a Heisman candidate.
But that doesn’t mean he’s starting QB for a team hoping to do big things. He’s good on his best days and has a lot of lapses every game.
Not focusing on 2 yds to get first is insane. Btw where was KLS? Why is 6 even playing at critical moments?

Again, why do we not make it a priority to get the ball to Parker Washington? It’s like they forget he’s our 2nd best offensive weaponLet’s throw two bombs to a guy who never plays. Including on fourth and two. Tight ends? Never heard of them.
I feel horrible for Clifford. The staff **** the bed on that last drive. WTF were they thinking???
One thing about Joe was his teams always got better as the year went on, Franklin not so much
It amazes me guys like Allar and Singleton are coming here.. I am happy, but watching the game plan it makes me worried they may switch.

Fake Fg, missed fg, stalled red zone drives, no use of TE in red zone except for the warren TD, head scratching blitz call on 3rd and 6 to give up a long TD. This loss is on the coaches and OL

Great coach. Great recruiter. Great motivator. Not sure we could do better.
Seems to prioritize big plays over fundamentals leading to inconsistent performance.
I don't see how anyone could claim he's anything but a mediocre game day coach at best.
Can only hope that a full off-season for Yurcich and Trautwein makes a profound difference.

I’d be more worried they leave after watching this Oline over the last 4 years. This Oline has been one of the worst I’ve seen at PSU. If you bring in the best qb and rb in high school but your Oline doesn’t know that you need to block a 1st round draft pick…does it matter? Somehow they have gotten worse and no one has gotten hurt so explain that to me.
Also…why doesn’t Franklin take a TO on that 4th so he can get Dotson back on the field? Instead throw a 20 yard fade down the sideline??
It boggles my mind that a coach would take their 3 or 4 best players off the field, and put in a special teams unit to fake a field goal, just to get 2 yards. Now you snap it 7 yards farther back. So instead of having 2 yards to go, you now have 9 yards to score without your 3 or 4 best players on the field. WTF?
I wouldn't say that Hairball out coached Franklin. I'd say that Franklin out coached Franklin. He thinks this is backyard football with all the cuteness crap.
I really liked the Franklin hire and have tried to not turn on him, but this program is trending in the wrong direction now. Coupled with the talk of more money for resources, it appears he is deflecting responsibility back onto the university. I think its time for a new voice soon and ill wish Franklin well, he is a good man and represented the university well, its just not working. This isn't an explosive play league, you gotta be really focused on blocking and tackling, our QBs get hurt every year, its just not working
Another question…have we even really tried to return a kickoff or punt? I feel like our players are signaling for a fair catch before it’s even snapped. Is that a lack of faith in the returner or the ability of our receiving team to block at all to setup a return? Dotson is an unreal athlete in space yet he hasn’t had any opportunities to be a game changer on special teams.
I don't make the assumption Sandy gives a rip about building a championship team.
By not getting in his own way (also Franklin), Hairball most certainly out coached him.
I was thinking same thing. PW#3 was also on sideline too. Two best playmakers not in on the biggest play of game.
I said last week, we are a middle of the pack big 10 team with a rebuild next season. Next season could be ugly
