I dont think its that big of a loss, we didnt seem that interested in the kid (not to sound like an ole miss fan) but if coach satan offered him, then I kind of wonder if we missed something in his evaluation.

I'm like you. My first thought was "how the hell does this guy have 'grade issues?' He's at a f'n academy!" My second thought was "why is this guy getting pub? He's at a f'n academy!" My third thought was "why the hell is Saban hot after this guy? He's at a f'n academy!" My fourth thought was "why did he meet face to face with croom and walk out of that meeting with NO OFFER? Because he's at a f'n academy!"

Good size. Good speed. Good feet. Strong. But he's at a f'n academy!

Of course, after a redshirt, he'll end up all-SEC.

Edit to add HS Coach quote: "Steen's coach, Mark Kirk, was surprised at only the timing of the commitment. "I didn't know he was going to do it now, but Alabama had stood out for a long time," said Kirk. "I think some other schools were close to offering like Mississippi State. Either way, a lot of schools missed out on a good one by not offering."

Apparently, like most recruits, he shrinks & gets a little slower when you meet him anywhere other than his reccruiting profile.

Grades + size + low level of comp

Lawrence will be a good one. Academy or not, I'd like to have him.

It's a little different situation. Lawrence is an athlete who could play a few positions. He has the size, speed, and smarts.

I think the problem with evaluating Steen is that he is competing against 200lb offensive & defensive linemen.

academy or not. That's my point. It bothers me to see kids dismissed simply because they are white or play academy ball.

I think Pearl High and Newton Co would probably agree with me.

...I hear Thomas Webb would easily fit into our DE rotation if he didn't have to sit out this year after transferring from USM. Too bad we didn't give him the time of day when we had the chance two years ago.

...for hating when a kid gets overlooked I guess you can deduct which one Webb meets.

OL is probably the only position that private schools can produce on the D1 level. We played against Reid Neely and Taxler in high school and neither one impressed me that much but both have started at some point for Ole Miss. Private school ball isn't near as bad as it is made out to be.</p>
