I won't be surprised if other SEC schools make similar decisions or at least hold off on announcements of new projects that involve significant money. There is just too much unknown in college sports right now.

They are much further ahead of us in football and a serious 2024 playoff contender. Smart for them to go all in for 2024. I think Bama's going to regret not hiring Lane, but I understand they probably thought he wouldn't be a good fit. They are all in for the next 5* football player in the portal.
Cohen did nothing with NIL while he was here. At the same time, Ole Miss saw it as their opportunity and got a big head start .They are much further ahead of us in football and a serious 2024 playoff contender. I don’t know about college sports as a whole, but completely agree about essentially everything not named football or men’s basketball. During the last couple weeks, the P5 conferences all just agreed with the NCAA to settle open lawsuits to the tune of $2.7B in back pay plus essentially the same in future payments to athletes over the next decade. Is the money there to be able to do that? Yes. But is it currently being spent on other things. Also yesThis stuff is going to destroy college sports. Non-rev sports, like baseball, are going to slowly disappear or become reginal only due to costs.
To be fair, Ole Miss boosters have a long history of buying players so the transition to NIL was much easier for them.Cohen did nothing with NIL while he was here. At the same time, Ole Miss saw it as their opportunity and got a big head start .
I've been hearing this for 3 years now. And the next year Mississippi comes back with another really good football team.OM has mortgaged their athletic future on next football season thinking that competing for a football national championship will elevate them into elite status and money will start to flow. I personally don't think even winning the championship will be looked upon anything other than a one year anomaly and OM will suffer for a decade as a result. But what do I know! Two SEC schools in the nation's poorest state will never equate to a powerhouse.
Up until this year they've just been testing the waters. This year they jumped in with both feet or so I'm hearing from a pretty well connected Reb booster.I've been hearing this for 3 years now. And the next year Mississippi comes back with another really good football team.
There's one poster on this board or ED who is a huge Cohen supporter, I'm like WTF? Cohen would have been fine in the 80s, but you have to have an AD now who is several steps ahead.Cohen did nothing with NIL while he was here. At the same time, Ole Miss saw it as their opportunity and got a big head start .
We have a long history of buying players as well. We just didn’t glorify it.To be fair, Ole Miss boosters have a long history of buying players so the transition to NIL was much easier for them.
And will continue to do so as long as Lane is there and the funds are plentiful.I've been hearing this for 3 years now. And the next year Mississippi comes back with another really good football team.
Name checks outWe have a long history of buying players as well. We just didn’t glorify it.
They lose their entire team after this year. They build up their program until they had a good base and then went all in. They can't go all in every year, they don't have the funds. They spent $5MM over what they can normally swing. And they still lost their stud RB.I've been hearing this for 3 years now. And the next year Mississippi comes back with another really good football team.
I believe it was a sump pump for their outfield seating areaThey were supposed to demolish and rebuild the west side of their football stadium but Covid hit. Then, before they could get started, NIL came about so that's still on hold for them too. It not just "non revenue" sports.
What was their baseball expansion plans? Putting up a wedding tent so far past the outfield that you need binoculars to see home plate and convincing people to pay club level prices for it? Oh wait. They've already checked that one off of their list.
As long as Kiffin is there they will be good/great every year. Guess I'm one of the only ones that honestly believes that Florida will eventually fire their HC and throw the bank at Kiffin. He would be a great fit there and could definitely win a championship there and when he does eventually leave OM then will just promote JJ to HC. As much as I hate it they have set themselves up nicely. Meanwhile, we just keep stringing along and trying to be budget friendly.I've been hearing this for 3 years now. And the next year Mississippi comes back with another really good football team.
We shall see lolThe same posters predicting their demise were the ones still calling it cheating after NIL dropped.
Long, long fall ahead. They are going to be VERY good and we are going to rival Vandy for worst SEC team.
If Dart stays healthy, they can win it all. Anyone who doesn't agree is just being dumb for stubbornness sake.
what about 2022?As long as Kiffin is there they will be good/great every year.
When 8-5 is your down year at a place like Mississippi, you're doing a hell of a job.what about 2022?
I will gladly take that bet as we all watch Georgia win another one. Go look at the Vegas odds and come back down to earth. The same posters predicting their demise were the ones still calling it cheating after NIL dropped.

SEC football facilities (not just stadiums) rival NFL facilities because it was a recruiting tool before pay-for-play. With NIL and revenue sharing, it doesn't make as much sense to break the bank for facilities. They were supposed to demolish and rebuild the west side of their football stadium but Covid hit. Then, before they could get started, NIL came about so that's still on hold for them too. It not just "non revenue" sports.

Ohio St. will have something to say about that. Those are the two favorites. But a quick Google shows Mississippi with the 7th best odds to win it, right between Alabama and Michigan.I will gladly take that bet as we all watch Georgia win another one. I just hope paying for our new stadium doesn't become a financial albatross for us.The building frenzy is about to come home to roost. The bubble has burst.
The fact that Ole Miss is in the conversation is a testament to making a home run hire and retaining him.Ohio St. will have something to say about that. Those are the two favorites. But a quick Google shows Mississippi with the 7th best odds to win it, right between Alabama and Michigan.
Not according to people signing the checks. They were hoping he would take the auburn job in December 22. 18 months later and our fans act like he’s the new Saban and may never lose a game or recruit again. When 8-5 is your down year at a place like Mississippi, you're doing a hell of a job.
They could be in the 12 team playoff and that would be a shining moment that will be forgotten a week later. The fact that Ole Miss is in the conversation is a testament to making a home run hire and retaining him.
Makes sense - that's a lot of shiit to have to deal with there.I believe it was a sump pump for their outfield seating area
I thought we were his dream job. His wife had a maroon dress and all.****OM then will just promote JJ to HC.
And not Cohening up ****The fact that Ole Miss is in the conversation is a testament to making a home run hire and retaining him.
