Just posted on the SA website-

In the next few weeks, construction will begin to make several
changes to our on-campus dining facilities. Panda Express will replace
Sbarro in the Colvard Student Union. Perry Cafeteria will undergo an
expansion this summer which will add over 100 seats to the north end of
the cafeteria and allow for additional food selections and serving
lines. The final change which will take place for this fall is the
expansion of Chick-fil-A. The kitchen will be expanded at Chick-fil-A in
order to offer the spicy chicken menu which is available at many of
their other locations.

</p>

We are excited that Aramark Dining is continually working to meet
the needs of our growing student population and adding to the meal
options we have on campus.

they moved over to the old Varsity Grill building just off campus when the Union shutdown for renovation. I graduated before the Union finished so I have no clue as to if they are still in business. I'm also not sure how I avoid the freshmen 15 eating that stuff every day.

but I don't think many people eat over there or even know it's there. The sign still says "Varsity Grill" on it. Most people go to Taste of China or China Garden. <div>
</div><div>I came to orientation in the old union. I miss the Wendy's and Subway they had there. The new food options are nothing compared to the old ones. </div>

They have Zoca, the Moe's knockoff (nowhere near as good), Mississippi Steak (Philly steak place), a small Sushi place, Bleeker street (sell about 3 different kinds of sandwiches for at least $10), USED to have a Sbarros, and Chick-fil-a (I THINK the highest grossing chick-fil-a in terms of sales in the country). <div>
</div><div>The union has turned into nothign but a glorified convention center. The second and third floors are nothing but meeting rooms, the ball room, and offices. </div>

If they aren't, I'd love to see which one is. Except for Sunday's, I can't remember a single time when there wasn't a line stretched out the door

today.
Not sure about the highest grossing, but it does a helluva business.

You could get about a ten pound plate of foor for about $3. Plus, they always had some 6 year old asian kid serving you that had no idea what was going on.

of today's selection in the Union and on campus are obviously not old school enough to have been there in the late 80's early 90's when the Union consisted of some sort of dining services grill housed on the second floor where a food court later was put in place. This grill had some nasty burgers etc.

I will say, the cafeteria THEN vs the cafeteria NOW is not even close. The caf was so much better before Aramark it's not even funny. It's probably the biggest blunder anyone has made on campus since LT hired Croom.

So around the turn of 1990, dining options on campus consisted of the union grill, the caf, a Mazzios that opened on one end of the cafeteria, the bakery, and the old Gooches Deli by the MSU Laundry. That's it. We would have cut off a nut for a Chicfila. And even moreso if it took the old "Moneymate"!

I was there from Fall'91 toSpring '98, and I would've killed forthe choices they have there now. I spent so much money at Gooch's......that "BBQ" they served from that aluminum container with all that juice....wow. Moneymate RULED, as did the old cafeteria. That was easily the best food on campus to me.

The trick was to make fun of the dubmass who didn't know what he wanted on his food when ordering. She always hated it if you weren't ready.

Why do I miss the Grill Nazi? Damn, must be getting old.

Lived in Sessums my Freshman year 92-93 and pretty much lived off Gooch's nightly. The cafeteria had weird hours back then, was hardly ever open at night or on the weekends so Gooch's was about it while the food court was being remodeled. Mazzio's also did 10pm pizza nights on Friday nights, was awesome.

made to order eggs/omelets and bacon to raise the pH of my stomach. There was a grill downstairs on the N end of the cafet that made sandwiches and burgers back then that weren't bad either. That "BeSick" chicken and tater logs were outstanding after a night @ The Landing or The Club too!

+1 on the asian kid.

Still serving a huge plate for about $3.50, not the greatest chinese in the world but I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for.

The Landing or The Club or a street party at the apartment complexes over off Hwy 25 behind Wood Manor apts.---cant remember the name of them but that complex had 3-4 streets where on certain Saturday nights, a bunch of apartments would buy some kegs and you just walked from street to street and apt to apt drinking. Dont know why SPD didnt put a halt to those parties.</p>

Nostalgia is setting in... feel free to not read anymore of this post cause writing this anecdote is strictly for me to better relive the glory days.

The first time I at breakfast there, I was trying to "turn over a new leaf," which entailed attending greater than 1/3 of my classes. I'm not a breakfast person, but I thought getting up early and eating breakfast would be conducive to attending all of my classes.... I was wrong.

I walk from Creswell to the cafeteria for my first ever MSU breakfast. I ordered a steak and cheese omelet cause I thought it sounded the least like breakfast food. The Grill Nazi definitely was an *** to me but I figured she just hated her life for whatever reason. I quickly learned that, contrary to her terrible people skills, she was a damn Wizard on the grill. She whipped up a masterpiece of an omelet out of the most meager of ingredients (a tube of fake liquid eggs, frozen chunk of chopped "steak," and a cheap salad bars worth of veggies). This omelet was also huge, like "Man vs. Food" huge. But, The magnitude of its size was only trumped by its ungodly deliciousness. Needless to say, I ate the whole 17ing thing even though I was completely full after about 1/4 of it.....

After eating it, I only had 2 things on my mind, neither of which was going to class, but were both extreme basic human needs that could only be properly addressed at the dorm. The first and foremost thing on my mind was taking, what can only be described as, a "Dumb and Dumber"-esque champagne dump (you know, once the small solid "cork" portion is released, all hell breaks loose). The second thing on my mind was collapsing into a coma due to the the combo of extreme blood sugar & fat levels and absolute *******'s-fatigue.

Needless to say, I ended up missing all my classes that day.....never turned over my "new leaf".....made final class grades/scores that only putt-putt golfers could truly appreciate......and was yanked out of school for a semester by my parents...... BUT 17 WAS THAT OMELET GOOD!...... Since then, I ordered the same omelet every time I went to the cafeteria during breakfast hours, except from then on, I made sure I had ZERO things to do for the rest of the day.

The union had closed after band camp and the only place we could eat was Perry... which all in all, wasn't bad at all. <div>
</div><div>I would ALWAYS go up to grill lady and she would be yelling at some guy not paying attention or something like that. I'd always get either a philly steak and cheese or a giant pancake and steak and cheese omlet... which would give anyone a heart attack by the amount of melted butter they would ladle onto the grill, but DANG those were the days. They still make omlets in the cafeteria, but they are in these miniature pans and they are half water. The quality of the cafeteria took a nose dive after Aramark acquired it. I know dining services was going under, but still... its not worth the walk over there anymore. </div>

The Caf breakfast was great just as others have said and VERY cheap. I discovered the 1.99 breakfast one semester probably around 1991 which consisted of 2 eggs, choice of meat, biscuit or toast, hashbrowns (which were the bomb!) and add on a glass of MSU-made chocolate milk from the little 1950 dispenser like you were at a true dairy bar. I would hit this every tuesday and thursday that semester after my 8:00 class and then had no other classes and I would head out to the MSU golf course and play 9 before lunch. Great semester.

I always though part of why the caf was good was all the dairy products used from MSU. And people like the grill lady just knew how to cook and it wasn't corporate Aramark food. Does anyone else remember the extremely tall black guy that worked in the caf that had to be 8 feet 3 inches tall but weighed like 140?!

And oh...at lunch the hamburger steak was the item of choice with mashed taters and gravy.

You Reflector geeks were too busy putting out birdcage copy and carpooling to the brand new BYB or JC Garcia's. I weighed 160 back then because I was in the Tin Gym from about 1 to 5 every afternoon hoopin it up while you losers were in class somewhere. And for the record...I'm 200 you freakin liar!

Someone mentioned Danver's. Dawgatauburn, do you remember the $1 Burger/Salad Combo!??! I don't think they advertised it as such!!

I bet I ate 50 lbs of potato logs from that B-Quick if I ate 1 lb! The Club & The Landing were IT. Oh yea, what was the name of that country bar there in the shopping center where Remington HC is now?
