On the Vandy court thing

When I arrived at my current school, they still had the benches on the endline. Tradition. Other schools hated it, so I naturally thought I'd love it. But I thought it would be hard to get used to though after coaching from the sidelines for 7 years. But it really wasn't THAT big a difference. On 30 second timeouts, if my team was on the other end, I'd meet them at halfcourt instead of making them come all the way down to me and then back. Other than that, I didn't really detect a noticeable "home court advantage" from it. It was more psychological than anything.

THE ONLY thing that I didn't like was .....I use alot of off/def substitutions late in close games. Esp. if we're down and i need to send someone in to foul to put a team on the line or get to the bonus. THAT is harder because you have to get the sub all the way down the line before the ball is put in play. Makes it more difficult.

but it makes a difference when 14,000 are screaming as opposed to 400...other than that, I'd say you are correct

how many troubled young men did he help? Besides having a good offense and making postseason runs, that's what really matters.

None. We were a private school and very talented. And as far as making deep postseason runs, we played for the state title in football, FF in basketball, and FF in baseball that year.

..MUST the visiting team use the endline? Can the home team really dictate where the visitors sit. I'd think in theory the visiting team can sit anywhere as long as it is out of bounds.

We can argue the actual impact it has on a game all day long, but to say it has none is simply wrong.

When the new gym was built in the late 80s, benches were set at normal locations.

I played at Kirk in a State tournament as a Sophomore and it was something to get used to. My school actually tried it for like the last three games of the regular season just so we would have a little feel for what its like. I don't know how much of a difference it makes in the game's outcome but for Academy ball I'd put our men's and women's coaches up against any and they felt it was important enough to get us a little used to it.

That being said, the state tournament this year was held there and the benches were no longer done that was and were on the side of the court like all the others.

It wasn't a big deal. But, it did take a timeout or two before you got used to running to the end of the court rather than the side.

it plays NO part in the outcome of a game, to use that as a reason for someone losing is insane to put it simple
