Neither one of my kids chose USC where I graduated with 2 BS degrees in the 90s. My son went to Winthrop and my daughter went to College of Charleston. They never cared about the Gamecocks like I did. No harm no foul. GO COCKS

Ahem...I beg to differ. I turned down a near full ride to Vassar for Gamecock Baseball. 😁
Going to college and playing a sport is a lot different than going to college and watching a sport.

Oh I know that all too well, especially being the mother of a future D1 Golfer (hopefully).

But the OP is about a daughter choosing a school because she wants to watch a winning football team, not because she's playing on a team.

And my response was in jest to @atl-cock .

I get it. That's why I think it is foolish to choose a school so you (the daughter in the OP) can watch a winning football team.

Some like to watch winning football. Some (Me. I'm some) need ballplayers in their life. There's more to college than studies.

had a serious tour of several major collegiate opportunities for his really smart daughter. She chose Clemson for several reasons. But the most notable reason was the fact that she wanted to experience being a winner at the football level as opposed to being a wannabe. No joke, that is how it came down. Once again, Ray and the BOT, just don't get it. What a bunch of losers. My best friend is just crushed.
My daughter couldn't care less about football or any of college sport. She'll use those home games as a good opportunity to have the run of the library.

I'm going to advisedly assume that you are being serious. UPC has seen its best days. A "really smart' daughter would be looking at Georgia, Bama, or Ohio State.
I've got a friend who's family is half USC and half ECU fans. After the ECU game this year, his young son says "Dad what should I do if I don't want to cheer for the Gamecocks or the Pirates?" I still chuckle at his reply of "Alabama's a good choice". He's not wrong.

To the OP's point, I chose Carolina because of football. I joined the marching band and enjoyed that for a couple seasons. It worked out too, I've got a BA and a JD from Carolina now.

However, choosing Clemson for any reason whatsoever is a terrible decision and shows that the individual was not thinking rationally at the time.

And your friend didn't recommend UPC. Good.

Did you apply to any schools other than USC?

Way back when, I applied to UVA, William & Mary, Davidson, and USC. I think I was wait-listed at the Commonwealth institutions

A comparison of Davidson vs USC in the late 1970s:

At USC, students preferred exams on Fridays so that they had the weekend to play.
At Davidson, students preferred exams on Mondays so that they had the weekend to study.

Our daughter was home on spring break last week. She studied, wrote or read some every day. She's a HS junior in the Governor's School in Greenville.

Yes. In another reply to you, I mentioning turning down Vassar. I also had a full ride waiting at Columbia College. Applied, and accepted, to UGA, Richmond, and VT as well.

Vassar?! Impressive!!....your dad let you turn that down? My daughter would have a difficult time convincing me that was best. LOL.

I thought that Vassar was a joke.

Nice that you got accepted to a variety of schools. All things being equal, you chose well. 😊

That was all Momma. Daddy wanted Carolina 1000%. And I'm a Daddy's Girl.

Like I'm going to go to a predominantly female Yankee school.

They recruited me really hard. Not sure why. I'm about as Southern as a Southern Woman can get. I would not have done well there.

Just the opposite for me....I didn't have as much influence as I was allowed to believe. Although my wife didn't want my youngest going to Miami U, she preferred CoC.

Carolina was always #1 for me. I'd have turned down a full ride to Harvard for Carolina. Once I received my acceptance to Carolina, all the rest were just formality.

And I'll be honest...my love of Gamecock Baseball (the game, not just ballplayers ;) ) had a lot to do with it. I couldn't imagine not being at Sarge Frye during my undergrad. It was, and still is, too much a part of me.

An aside question, what do think of USC softball?

See, you were a dyed-in-the-wool Gamecock Girl your entire life. That's a lot different from the "depiction" of the young woman in post #1.

If the reason you gave was the decision maker for her school, she may be brilliant in some areas, but down right stupid in some others. clemsons football acc domination could very well be over.

Even if it weren't, the decision would be "imprudent".

Lol. So what? If she's choosing a school because she wants to be a football "winner" then her priorities are whack anyway. You can get a wonderful education at Carolina, meet life long friends, and get a fantastic student experience despite what the friggin' football team is doing. Football is fun; it's NOT life.

So you base your decision off of a female daughter of your friend . You have any friends that have children at USC ? So I guess all the other schools she had major opportunities at were loses too . Name those schools .
