During a broadcast, Twins announcer Jim Kaat was discussing Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes and saying that he had become one of his favorite pitchers. In describing him, he used the phrase "Nestor the molester." Now, it was certainly a terribly awkward thing to say and it doesn't even really make sense, so to think there was malicious intent doesn't really make sense. Nevertheless, because Kaat is white and Cortes is not, it seemed a ripe opportunity to scream for being offended. Indeed, there was a great offense by a lot of people...except Cortes. He said he wasn't offended and knew that Kaat didn't mean anything by it. He revealed that Kaat called to apologize and that he accepted his apology but stated that no apology was necessary. He went further to say he would do what he could to build Kaat up.

Wow.

In a day when folks are just DYING to be offended by something...ANYTHING...Cortes totally brushes it off. It would have been one thing for him to accept the apology and forgive Kaat, but he said no apology was even necessary because he wasn't offended because he knows Kaat just had a poor choice of words in the moment and didn't have any ill intent.

I wish this attitude would spread through society like covid.

Now, it begs the question: if the subject of the comment isn't offended, is what Kaat said offensive? Will this be a situation where Kaat is disciplined because a lot of people are offended on Cortes behalf?

Do ya'll remember Lester "the molester" Hayes? Mr stick em. Loved the nickname back in the day. Appropriate name for Lester the way he played the game.
