Just got this snazzy targeting email from Stubhub. As a once teenager of the early 90's, you tell me Blues Traveller and Spin Doctors are playing at one concert and you have my attention (I'll go take dump during Gin Blossoms or get drunk or something.)... But whoa, 17 me.

Out of an abundance of caution as they say, I decided to see what these bands are looking like 30 years later.... And, while I am not one for cancel culture of any kind. Somebody needs to lock the 17ing Spin Doctors up. I'm a pretty open minded fella, but this is some white van, chester the mustachioed molester type stuff... Watch and cringe.

I feel like I should have a good quip about the Spin Doctors being actual physicians. Can’t decide if I should go with a gynecology reference due to the nature of this specific song, or a neurology reference due to the Spinal Tap vibe.

I have written here before that in my mind R&R is a young person's game. I just don't like guys with walkers performing it on stage or seeing the M*A*S*H audience that shows up. It just goes against the picture that was.

It's insane how old are lot of these rockers are and the fact they are touring. C'mon man...some of these dudes are a miracle to be living much less up on stage and touring. I'm impressed by that fact but agree that 74 year olds might wanna go sit down.

The Spin Doctors were awful in their prime, and I refuse to click on that YouTube video. There's a bunch of old men (and women) out there that can't let go of their youth but need to exit gracefully so someone else can get some air time.

Thank you. Back in the days before streaming it used to piss me off when they came on the radio and I was stuck listening to them

Another one is Drivin and Cryin. They have not aged well. I did see the Bodeans in ATL a few years ago. They are actually doing pretty good.

Don’t get me wrong, I agree there’s nothing more breathtaking than a woman carrying a large retro boombox but Boombox Baby being a preteen in an arcade doesn’t do it for me.

Seriously, who heard this song and thought to themselves it needed a music video?

You have to at least give them credit for 'Little Miss Can't be Wrong':

Lead singer Chris Barron has stated that the song was inspired by his relationship with his stepmother, despite popular belief that it was written about an ex-girlfriend. He described his stepmother as a "malignant narcissist". Barron had a viral tweet in August 2019 about the song's creation, writing: "My stepmom told me I'd be a janitor [nothing wrong with that] and live in the basement of a school and play guitar for the rats. I wrote a song about her. It's called Little Miss Can't Be Wrong. It's been played on the radio three million times."

You didn’t leave any babies at the concert hall did you? (Hope you get that reference)

This goes for any band/song that came on the radio back in the day- I got so annoyed when a song came on I didnt like then I would switch to the other good station and it was playing at the same time!

There was good reason for me to have the CaseLogic 12 disc visor holder, the 32 disc small disc wallet and the biggie 320 disc wallet stashed all around my car. Super inconvenient though when I wanted a specific CD and didnt know which it was stored in!

It's funny to me how many 90's bands - especially grunge bands - have not aged well over time. While bands like ACDC, the Cult, Metallica, etc can still kick major ***.
I saw the Spin Doctors in 94ish and it looked like they just woke up, didn't change out of their pajama-sweat-pants, and got on stage. It wasn't great then.

Most of these old bands still trying to tour should stick to the 1 or 2 albums that were ever worth listening to. Nobody wants them to make new music.

But it almost never fails, go listen to one of these 90s bands and 3rd or 4th song in - “we’re gonna play one from our new album”. What they mean is go take a piss or buy a beer

That might be their only song I know, and i’ve changed the channel every time it comes on for the last 30+ years.

Agree to disagree.
Nah, man it’s true.. in the span of about 36 months beginning in the summer of 1991 the world left rock and roll and flooded to grunge.

The fad burned hot and by the late 90’s the party was over. The world came out of its drug induced depression and decided grunge music did, indeed, suck.

What emerged in the aftermath is this slop churned out today from computer generated music performed by pop star influencers and hoe-slapping gangsta rap.

I saw Blues Traveler years after they were really popular. I wasn’t necessarily a fan, it was a corporate event. Up to that time it was the best concert I’ve ever seen and I grew up in the late 70’s and early 80’s and saw some really good concerts . Blues Traveler absolutely blew me away.

I was born in 1960 so my formative years is Rock and Roll. I don't get why you separate Grunge from Rock & Roll. It is Rock & Roll. I now listen to all the different Classic Rock channels and Grunge is definitely part of that path. Lithium on Sirius is one of my main channels. Nirvana, STP, Pearl Jam et al played Rock & Roll.

One little pet peeve I have is the decade breakdown of music. I think it should be on the 5s more than the 0s. 1965-1975, 1975-1985, 85-95, etc.

I was listening to the Gin Blossoms the other day. I like that band, although their lead singer died a long time ago. Let's just say the band name hints at the reason.

Great band. It was the guitar player who died. Singer has been with the band the whole time, along with rhythm guitar and bass player.
