So let’s talk about the importance of parental controls. I get home a little while ago, late from work. I have 3 children, the oldest of whom is an 11 year old boy. He usually gets home around 3:30, while the rest of us usually roll in around 5:30. So everyone is winding down and getting ready for bed, and I sit down and turn the TV on. I get a prompt asking if I want to delete a movie that has been purchased for $11.99. The title of said film? “I Want to Bury my Face in my Neighbor’s Big Naturals.”

I don’t even know what to do right now. Am I supposed to be angry? Disappointed? Proud? I was always pretty sure he liked girls, but this takes away any possible mystery there. The cable bill is on auto-draft too, so he would’ve gotten away with it had he pressed one more button.

Secretly be proud, but threaten him within an inch of his life. I think that’s how it’s done. Mine is only 7.

Who doesn’t want to see some big naturals? It’s only natural.

You’re probably going to have to watch it just to see exactly what he was watching**

Explain to him how porn is free on the internet, no need to purchase x rated movies like it’s 1990 anymore.

Somewhere IMPP is thinking what images to use for a future SMTTT post…

take the Mike Leach approach...tell him you're upset about the movie but more upset that he tried to buy something without your approval. We had an agreement with our daughters that we would not punish them if they told the truth...we weren't happy, but we rewarded the truth.

All very good input. I’ve come to a conclusion. I’m not going to punish him, because his old man likes big naturals too. I don’t want my son to think I’m a hypocrite. Besides, there are just some things that wives/mothers don’t need to know about.

But then there’s the matter of the twelve bucks he owes me. I’m thinking that my truck needs to be hand-washed and detailed this weekend. That feels like justice.

I’ll get roasted for this, but seeing as how I literally walked out of a room with a wife whose family has been destroyed by pornography and this was the first thing I saw I’d say you ought to be concerned. Not every viewer of porn has sex and marriage issues but virtually everyone with sex and marriage issues is a viewer or addict. And there’s a direct connection between the proliferation of pornography and the fact that I can’t watch sportscenter without seeing 15 viagra commercials. Of course, there’s also the issue of someone’s daughter being objectified for the jollies of a bunch of limp pervs. But hey, what’s the harm, huh?

Dude, I used to try to watch scrambled playboy back in the late 80’s when I was 11 on the off chance maybe a boob would come into focus. It did not lead me to a porn addiction. It’s a normal thing for an 11 year old to do. He isn’t going to go give his son a high five. More than likely he is going to be a good father and have a discussion with his son about the realities of what he just watched and how it isn’t real and how women aren’t objects. I’m not saying porn addiction isn’t real. It is a terrible thing. But that’s where the whole parental discussion above i mentioned comes into play. I am sorry for what your family has gone through however.

Blaming porn for the destruction of a family is the equivalent of blaming a gun for the murder.

Nah, it’s the equivalent of blaming weed for someone being a dysfunctional loser. For most people, it’s not good, but it doesn’t do serious harm. Some people can’t handle it though. Probably a lot of causation going both ways in most instances where it’s a problem.

I think the first question is “Which Neighbor?” so you can make sure your son marches over to apologize to her face to face

I racked up a $700 or some odd dollar 900 bill in 8th grade so a lady that prolly looked like Julia Child could tell me her nipples got hard.... Cut the kid some slack. Put in the parental controls and give him a stack of Sears catalogs. He'll figure it out and you'll never have to address it again.

Wait, what? I thought "our 5 have to block their 3" was the dumbest sentiment I've read on MSU boards....until now.

I will be very disappointed with SPS if this thread and the latest from IMPP don't stay right next to each other for the next 24 hours.

Good for you to post this, Ray. I had the same thoughts as well.

just like with alcohol, Most people can drink and not become an alcoholic but some People do become alcoholics. Sexual addiction is a real thing and is becoming more common with young men and women with the easy access to pornography through cell phones and the internet.

No expert, but last I checked they aren’t just giving guns to children indiscriminately. My wife works with students and if you don’t think easy access to pornography isn’t a serious issue for adolescents, you are willfully ignorant. I think she said the average age of exposure to porn is around seven now, and it keeps going down.

I hope that you didn't delete the movie. You have already paid $11.99 for it. Deleting it would not be fiscally responsible and that would be bad parenting.

I understand the sentiment and it can certainly be destructive, but porn is like any other vice - it's destructive to those who allow it to be but that's not most people. I certainly would disagree with your sentiment that everyone with sex or marriage issues has a problem with porn.

And most of the "someone's daughters" there are there by choice and getting paid handsomely. They made a choice. There are exceptions, of course.

Be honest, & firm but fair. Nothing wrong with a kids curiosity. I doubt his nuts have even dropped. We’ve all been there. But make him work off the bill.

I'd tell him how bad porn is for your brain and if he keeps it up, it can negatively affect future relationships and potentially cause porn-induced erectile dysfunction.
