My former town once had the circus in town and someone shot an elephant (made national headlines)
Also a sitting councilwoman actually conducted a cash raffle and huge cookout for all in her part of the city who voted and thought there was no problem with this. (National news)
I thought that was bad until I moved to said city and joined the HOA board for 120 homes. (The end of this year can’t get here fast enough.)

Lady in my hometown just got attacked by a few pit bulls on her morning run. Almost killed her. Now there's a huge argument on Facebook. One group saying all pit bulls should be illegal and the other group suggesting maybe she was trespassing and that led to the dogs attacking her and it wasn't the dogs fault. The latter group collectively wouldn't have a full set of teeth between them unsurprisingly.

Hernando is about to hit another growth spurt without really expanding or improving roads and infrastructure. Going to be a real **** show in about 3 or 4 years.

Had some drama in the last few alderman meetings with approving some new buildings that drew the ire of residents. Some warranted and some unwarranted.
We really suck in the US at handling growth. Basically every existing nice city or even neighborhoods that should be copied would be prohibited by existing zoning and/or codes.

Holy conflict of interest, Batman!

There’s about to be a lot of solar farms in Desoto County and the board of supervisors is all about it. All they see is the dollar signs on the taxes from it.
I’ve been on the sidelines of solar energy for a few years. It’s the biggest boondoggle since ethanol. My neighbor who lost everything in a tornado built back totally off grid with solar. He’ll never recoup what he’s spent in his lifetime. It might be cost effective in the Southwest but it’s just not feasible in Ms.

Hernando really needs to start expanding out west of town on Commerce St. Adding more crap on Commerce "downtown" is ridiculous. You can't get out on Commerce if you have to cross traffic as it is now.

Yea but the expansion is all north. The 17 up that is the main drag can never be fixed. It’s worse traffic than NYC.
Yep. I hear that a Buffalo Wild Wings is going in near 269 at McIngvale? or Getwell interchange?. I hope that's not true. Because it is that type of pointless "growth" that causes one area to "grow" and another to decline. Although the BWW in Southaven is useless at the moment. BUt that is a labor issue and not a location issue.

Back to the point, yeah Hernando is a charming small MS town. It needs to stay way. Because, the interstate created a natural barrier and there isn't a good way to connect the town to the east side, Generica.

Seconds, there is still enough undeveloped land in OB, Lewisburg, Snowden, Horn Lake that more houses packed into that town isn't needed. But with a new school build, comes new houses and Generica build out. It has to stop with one of these generations.

I've had Pit Bulls and Staffys all my life. They are the most passionate breed I've ever had. They go 100% in whatever they do. An out-of-control Pitty is almost always the owner's fault. Bad dog = bad owner. Pit Bulls are very intelligent and rate on a sociability scale only 2nd to a Golden Retriever. There is no reason a Pit Bull cannot be a wonderful family addition. I think some people get these dogs because of their wrongful reputation, stick them on a yard chain, and basically forget about them. Pits need tons of attention and lots of exercise. If you're not willing to give them the attention as you would your own child, then you should not have one. A Pit Bull is not the family pet......it's an equal member of your family.

Ive heard from an alderman... a year or so ago...the plan is to make McIngvale/GreenT/269, Hernando's "front door".

It’s not a full size Buffalo Wild Wings. It’s part of a large electric car charging station that is being built. It’s going to be a service station for electric cars that has basically a food court inside with BWW, Dunkin Donuts, and a couple of other things.

We live west of Hernando. Been utility work going for months with a big power substation being installed. Can only assume lots of NC housing headed that way
I live off 301 towards 269 and built a new house 6 years ago in a place I wouldn't think the surrounding property would sell and now it under development.

No real government corruption drama yet here. Ours is all first world drama on Nextdoor which has convinced me there will never be a utopian society. There could be no unemployment no crime great healthcare etc and people would complain about the color of the sidewalk concrete.

Some of my favorites:

A Mexican restaurant painted a mural on the side of their building that featured calaveras art. People complained that it looked Satanic and they were told there is some random ordinance that does not allow them to paint the exterior. They had to paint over it. FFWD to a couple of weeks ago and now they have a Blue Angels mural. Apparently the ordinance doesn’t apply to Naval Airplanes.

We have a lot of bears. Every week a post about them getting into trash or on a ring camera sparks the they need to be hunted/relocated vs the we need to stop destroying their habitat crowd. The hunted crowd feel they are a danger despite no attacks ever recorded here. The relocation crowd will not give there property back to provide more habitat.

The biggest is the fight between the north part of the county and the south. The north part is the seat of government and has the biggest population, but the south produces most of the tax revenue because of home values and bed taxes on the coast. The S part of the county feels like it gets the shaft for development and infrastructure. The biggest crime against humanity is when the south gets car washes, Dollar Generals, and Storage units and the north gets 5 guys despite both having equal zoning ordinances. Inevitably a thread pops up complaining about the businesses with no understanding that clearly those businesses are making money. Then the inevitable Why can’t we get a Trader Joe’s, Cheesecake Factory, Target etc posts starts. No concept of demographic specs for these franchises are considered. So when others explain that we don’t have the population to support them they disappear but reappear in threads complaining about multi family residential construction. So they want the businesses that need population but don’t want the population. Then they’ll move to the thread proposing incorporation for Navarre and blast that idea of not needing more government. Mother 17er you were just complaining about how government wasn’t stopping businesses you don’t want from legally setting up shop on commercial real estate. Rant over….
You Breezers are a special group of people. Real "Special"

Why would you want a Cheesecake Factory when 1000 other locally owned places in Pensacola do a better job of everything they do? Same with 5 guys.

Meanwhile every Breezer I have met thinks Warrington is somewhere between Jackson and Mogadishu. So far our worst crimes on Navy Point are a couple of bikes stolen, crazy cat ladies feeding a ridiculous amounts of strays, and somebody is harboring an illegal rooster.

NextDoor is truly something else. Wow. I saw a post a month ago in Madison that said "I just heard a siren passing by on Hoy Rd. Anyone know what's going on?" Someone responded with "Probably police, fire or ambulance responding to a call......that happens sometimes....."

No apartments. Just 6 more neighborhoods.
They better get off their arse's and build a school out this way. And design schools to expand upwards instead of buying land and building new Fs, Softball , Baseball and tracks for every new school that is built. Need to start using what they have and play some on Thursday nights. The poorest state has a great roadmap on how to waste $.

But even the expansion north there’s not adequate roads. And yes Commerce Street is an absolute nightmare during the day. It wouldn’t be so bad if the red lights around the interstate ramps weren’t a cluster17. The McCracken Rd redlight screws up the flow.
Those traffic lights at 55 and Commerce are wack. A bigass roundabout on the west side of 55 that controls the interstate ramps and also catches McCracken and Sloan would fix everything. There's plenty of room to do it too.

The mayor of Tuscaloosa crapped all over the contractors of a large city/State road and bridge project. Not the first time.

For any who want to know the type of lowlife the Mayor of T-town is, one particular incident sums up this cuntshit to a tee.

Mayor wants traffic above the lake to be improved. Fine, it needs it.

Project gets let, contracts awarded. Traffic control parameters in place. Construction already has been going on without a hitch for months, but the week school starts, traffic is a cluster. It’s like that the first couple days every year regardless if there’s construction going on or not. Lots of extra parents and grandparents taking kids to school, and everyone, including bus drivers are figuring out ingress and egress that first week.

Mayor Dickkheads phone rings with idiots blaming construction for overblown traffic woes. He goes down there with his little cocklsucking detail and tells the earthmovers to stop clogging traffic. They kindly tell him that he not only doesn’t have that authority, the contract has NO restrictions on time constraints for hauling material.

The next day, Mayor Dickkhead sends out several city police units to block the construction entrances from 7AM to 8:30. Loaded heavy trucks on contract already en route who know nothing of this illegal sneak attack had to park (fully loaded) on shoulders of city streets, which is not only a safety issue, but also tears up the shoulders and ditches.

Mayor gets threatened with a lawsuit, and he backs down, but still has the nerve to call his “buddy”, who’s contracting business got blamed and penalized for all the drama, for donations to a fundraiser he was taking credit for. Absolute shameless piece of garbage.

I got plenty of more stories like this one. 17 that dude.

As somebody mentioned, Rankin with the goon squad seems to be in the news a lot for a small town.
I've often said Skankin in the most entertaining place in the country, IF you enjoy people drama (i.e. the post of this thread). And I think it's for a couple of reasons:

- In small towns, you have to be involved with people anyway;
- In Mississippi, there's even less to do, so you're MORE involved with people.

That said, it gets old real quick dealing with people, even if the entertainment value is elite. Lord knows MSU isn't providing it.

Key to solar is have a bunch of it. Just like farmland, restaurants, etc. I tend to agree that it may not be the best investment in MS, even though it's so hot. There are maps out there that show that, I think.

Remember the tag reader cameras handing out shady insurance tickets in Ocean Springs? Turns out the company that ran the program was lining the pockets of both the city attorney and the owners of a political firm that had managed the mayor’s campaign. And the city attorney hired his own son to manage the ticket system, who implemented a “whitelist” for friends to avoid being ticketed…

We've got a good local family that's been selling fresh baked bread among other things at farmers' markets for year, and they're trying to open a cool brick and mortar restaurant in an old fire station that will serve baked goods, coffee, and craft brews. By all practical measures, it's about as perfect as things get because it occupies an empty main street building with a unique, locally owned restaurant that 99% of the town's residents would love to have.

The problem? Well, we're technically in a dry, bible belt county and someone important doesn't like the fact that this place will be serving beer, so they're rejecting the entire project over "inadequate parking for disabled individuals". There's literally a 2-page description in the project's proposal that talks all about how the owners are going to ensure access for these individuals, but apparently that's one of the easiest ways to reject a project when a certain high ranking official doesn't like what's being proposed.

Nearby town on its deathbed is getting some kind of government funded solar farm. When I say deathbed I mean Walmart and KFC said 17 it and left! A local business man brought in some solar company and an alderman was backing another solar company bidding on the project. Come to find out the alderman is employed by the solar company as an advisor. Business man’s company won the vote by the city alderman with the mayor breaking a tie vote. Alderman on the take has taken his displeasure to Facebook and made it personal. Business man and mayor have sued the alderman for slander or something. It kinda makes me want to attend the next board meeting even though I don’t live in the town
I thought you looked familiar. Sadly, the drama you mentioned doesn't surprise me.

Increasing minimum wage absolutely increases the cost of services but if the minimum wage does not pay their rent then we do through subsidized housing, food stamps etc… why should I have to pay for your cheese burger?

You pay the poorest well, then we all do better not worse. The poor spend every dime they get which increases the economy way faster than putting it in A rich man’s wallet to sit on.
Inflation? Yes, it happens but as
A. The poor get paid more to only have to spend more. They don’t benefit one bit.
B. What rich person that you know just sits on his/her money and does nothing with it? I know of none. They invest their money and blow it as well.

Like a lot of places in New York state, Rochester is a ****hole thanks to a certain political party. It used to be safe when we first moved here, but I won't take me family anywhere close by.

In my small town, we are getting ANOTHER dollar general. (Third within a 9 mile radius.)

Yep I just went and ate at lunch at Starkville Cafe and there were plenty of tables with no waiting. Damn students.........**

There is the fact that Lynn Spruill lied to everyone and said she wasn't going to run for mayor again but now is. She says she has "too many unfinished projects that she wants to see through". She does have at least one opponent, the Fire Chief announced awhile back he was running but I can't remember if that was before she entered the race or not. Qualifying has to be done in January

When riding on rural gravel roads, I would rather have a random Collie chasing me because their POS owner doesnt keep their dog contained than a random PitBull chasing me because their POS owner doesnt keep the dog contained.

Concur.

A huge issue with Pit Bulls is that are so strong and tough. My miniature schnauzer is an ahole, but not big enough/strong enough to seriously hurt anyone or another dog. Any dog can snap, but Pits are so strong, they can kill a human when they snap.
