I have eaten at +/-30 Top 50 BBQ Joints in TX over the years. Knocking out some in the Houston area this weekend. Bar A BBQ in Montgomery Texas may be my new all time favorite. Gonna be in the top 10 of next year's Texas Monthly top 50 no doubt.

Also gotta shout out to Tejas Chocolate in Tomball. Toured the pits and talked with the owner for about 30 minutes. He abides for sure... Check out his 3 pits.

Heard good things about Tejas Chocolate, but since moving back to DFW, I haven't gotten back down that way to try it.

Baw, come on down to E & L BBQ on Bailey Ave in Jxn, you'll never eat that ***** **** in TX again. Of course, there's a better than 50/50 chance you'll be the victim of a felony, but without great risk, there is no great reward.

It was good.. But Bar A blew me away. The sausage is definitely the best I have ever had and the sides were amazing. It was late and they were out of sliced brisket, but the chopped brisket was unbelievable.

Talked to the wife/co-owner. She said they switched to choice beef because the fat from prime overpowers the beef flavor. I'd agree. I had Goldees a while back and with the prime/tallow combination it's too fatty. Almost lard like in flavor. You will not regret the jaunt over to Bar A. Today, Bar A reminded me of the first time I ate at Louie Mueller's nearly 20 years ago.

Had to look up E&L... Uhh, no thanks.

Is that a dìck? Seriously, it looks like a dìck. Lovely Smith left a 5* review for this. Cooked on a propane rotisserie smoker by the way. Don't you hate propane?

Louie Muellers in Taylor. I walked in around 1992 or so…fresh off the bus to Texas working for a tractor company … proceeded up to the counter a said “ I’ll have a pulled pork sandwich no slaw “. Learned a lesson that day

If ever down this way, try Drakes in Greenwood, the clientele is sketchy and don't go Friday at lunch, but fall off the bone ribs! Rib tips are good too. Big Tae is the best soul food reviewer in the 'Sip, check him out.

Yep. See one of my posts above. Louie's changed this fresh out of Mississippi State boy's mind on Texas BBQ about 20 years ago. Nothing wrong with pork, but beef is where it's at.

The place I mentioned today, beat that Louie Mueller's experience for me. I never thought I'd have that eureka feeling again. Franklin could not do it. Neither could Goldee's. Cattleack got close. Leroy and Lewis probably got the closest before today. Bar A BBQ just beat them all.
