Best venue for this event in YEARS. Troon is pretty much a perfect golf course.

I keep thinking every week is gonna be Eric Cole's week. I keep thinking wrong though.

Statistically he's been a bum on tour for a year, yet he's a phenomenal player and major winner. Shows you how good these guys are and how fine the line is between success and failure. Eric will go out with Russ Cochran and shoot 63 half asleep.

Colin grew up at Troon. His Father was the Secretary, and he interviewed me before I played there. It was a process that was followed back then to make sure you could play and keep up.

That is a good one from tiger. Saying that, morning coverage was pretty good. Now the tiger show. Looks like Rory is eliminated. And Bryson is borderline .

Justin Rose is a machine. He's the next Bernhard Langer maybe.

How many shots would it take for ya to get out of the popular bunker right of the green at the Postage Stamp? I'd say at least 3 -- whiskey, bourbon, and then grain.

Justin Thomas goes out in 45. Now outside the cut line after shooting 68 yesterday.

Edit: He turned it around on the incoming nine (downwind) and shot -2 and made the cut at +4.

A+ graphics on the telecast. Commercials are in a half-screen window. Nice.

So you've played Troon? I can just imagine your joy.

One of the feeds on YoutubeTV multi-view has the 8th hole and it's been pretty funny watching pros flail away at a 120-yard hole. Watched Niemann hit into the bunker right, slap his 2nd into the coffin bunker. Stay in that bunker with his 3rd, play out sideways for his 4th that ended up in the front bunker, get on the green with the next one and then 3 putt for a fun little snowman. He went from in contention at -1 to flirting with the cut line, though he's since gotten a few shots back. Who knew 120 yards could be so difficult for these guys?

My Scotland rankings: 1) Royal Dornoch 2) Turnberry 3) Troon 4) Muirfield 5) St. Andrews
I got St Andrews and Carnoustie in Scotland plus a couple other Rota courses with Portrush and Birkdale. I was lucky to have great weather at 3 of the 4 with Portrush being very windy the day after Lowry won. I couldn't imagine trying to navigate Troon during today's conditions with my high ball flight.

A lot of carnage out there, but also some good scores so it does seem to be a good, fair, test. Plus it's windy and cool. I look forward to watching this weekend.

If it's nae wind and nae rain, it's nae golf. It amazes me how good these guys are in those deep green side pot bunkers. The average person couldn't toss the golf ball closer to the hole in many cases than what the players do with using as President Woodrow Wilson once said golf clubs “ill-suited to the purpose” of hitting a ball into a hole.

Justin Thomas is only 4 shots back and in the top ten - after carding a 45 on the front nine yesterday.

This tournament is now absolutely wide open to anyone even close and it's because of the golf course. No one had to reinvent it or **ck around with it. You watching USGA? PGA? And the R&A needs to bring back Turnberry and stop going to **itholes like Royal Liverpool. No one wants to watch that.

Thats why I've always said that some of the well designed par 3 courses that are popping up at golf resorts now days can be challenging and fun. Its not the distance, but the design/layout that can make even the shortest holes difficult to score on.

The Brits are a tough, gritty people. The rain conditions today at The Open were raw and nasty. The PGA would have called for halt in play.

You have to like Scotty Scheffler's odds at this point. He's only down a couple of strokes.

That cigarette smoking Brown is paired with SS tomorrow and will probably fade by the turn.

I like where Justin Rose is sitting but he's getting old and doesn't seem to have what it takes to finish.

Has Horshel even slept being atop the leader board at a major? I predict he fades before the turn.

I like where Schauffle, Burns, Henley and Scheffler are positioned.

I second that.

Many years ago in one British Open, it was raining and blowing like crazy when US golfer Cary Middlecoff came to the 1st tee ... tried to tee his ball, but the wind kept blowing it off ... Middlecoff told the starter that the round should be supended until the conditions improved ... starter said, there's no rule that says you have to use a tee, play golf!

Scheffler's putting issues are going to eventually bleed into the rest of his game if he doesn't correct them soon.

It’s golf, or as Mark Twain said, a good walk ruined.
